Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

I genuinely can't imagine advice less useful than to hector people for saying "fascism" when the activities of the state — using secret police to enact terror, weaponizing the tools of the state to deter opposition, taking over mouthpieces of the media, bullying other liberal states — resemble it.

Fascism isn't a state, it's an ideology and it's one that rarely announces itself. The entire point of our post-WWII education in history — driven by people like Hannah Arendt — was to spot the tenets of fascism before it could amass total power.

I keep thinking about statements like these. I suspect a significant portion of ICE—perhaps most of it—believes Vance / Miller / et al that they have total legal immunity for anything they do.
