With each passing year, I feel more and more that watching these three minutes of television on a Thursday morning in 1989 was foundational to the person I would eventually (try to) become.

What follows are assorted opinions about Hamnet (2025):
A good director shouldn’t give line readings. / I see what the movie was trying to do but seeing the attempt is not the same as succeeding. / There is a kind of breathless immediacy to the source material that is just not present in this film.📽️
A ★★½ review of Hamnet (2025)
What follows are assorted opinions about the movie called Hamnet, many of them without context, for better or worse.  Adaptation is very difficult, and what works on a page doesn’t necessarily work on...

Fellas, is it journalistic integrity to hold on to reality-shaping news for months just in case you needed to use it for paywall bait?

I will take this a step further and say a jukebox isn’t a jukebox if there’s no risk of playing an entirely unintended song by punching the wrong combination of letter (if applicable) and numbers.
On national jukebox day I must come out against being able to control the jukebox from your phone, people should know who put on that awful song and you should stand there and support your taste with whole heart

Weird how Thiel throws that “Antichrist”
word around like it’s a ~noclip cheat code.
In newly leaked audio, Peter Thiel admits he urged JD Vance to ignore Pope Leo XIV on moral questions — including the ethical development of AI.

He goes even further, branding Leo “the woke American pope” and suggesting he’s a tool of the Antichrist.

In a leaked lecture, Peter Thiel says he’s urged Vance to ignore the pope on moral questions — and simply pray for him.

You wouldn’t download a pie.
If I'm properly understanding the discourse of the last two days:

You should never steal a pie. If you want a pie that bad and can't afford it, you should borrow it from the library.

Also: All pies are good. Or: All pies are bad. Not sure which.

Nights of Cabiria (1957) is an invitation to tag along as she learns first-hand just how much of the world there is to see. A movie star, a man compelled to be charitable, a pilgrimage to receive a blessing, a moment of disillusionment, an encounter with the devil, and what ought to be true love.📽️
A ★★★★★ review of Nights of Cabiria (1957)
It’s easy for me to imagine that maybe, just maybe, Gelsomina from La Strada didn’t actually die offscreen, presumably from heartache, but instead took a notion to pick up sticks and move to Rome, giv...

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Almost a heartwarming little story, right up to the part where a grown-ass man says “I didn’t start it” like he’s trying to avoid detention.

Maybe the better advice is to just avoid the All-Seeing Eye of Isaac Chotiner entirely.
How do some people still not understand that when the caller ID says “ISAAC CHOTINER,” you just throw your phone right in the nearest toilet and walk away as quickly as you can.

In a just world, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) would have been only the first of many Le Carre adaptations along the same line… but we don’t live in a just world. 📽️

Honestly, there are three liberal arts colleges in Rome and it wouldn’t take much to push Dalton into the same blue-ish hue as Georgia’s other economic engine cities (Macon, Savannah, etc).
That said, Democrats should be scouring Rome and Dalton for a decent candidate. Build on the momentum of the statewide wins this past cycle and make the Republicans sweat.
