Node.js Programmer by weekday, Photographer by weekend. I pronounce Bluesky like Brewski.
I might have found a bug in V8 but I'm not sure yet. V8 doesn't list America/Nuuk as being a valid timezone but Firefox does. Both V8 and Firefox accept the timezone as valid.

I tried the brand new #Sony #RX1R III at B&H yesterday. It's a $5,000 fixed-lens camera with a full frame 60MP sensor. Ultimately the photos had less detail than the combo 33MP Sony A7c II + 40mm lens that I had brought with me which is half the price and not much larger.

I just discovered that the @digitalocean.com App Platform hosts my service behind @cloudflare.social because in _certain_ conditions it injects JavaScript into the page which then violates my Content Security Policy.

I just think AI is so exciting bc it's a machine that you can get wrong answers from, that yields environmental devastation, and is being forced on all of us

The latest version of #Android adds a bunch of battery-killing transparency and background blur. I suppose when the duopolies can't innovate they just keep ripping off each other's mistakes.

@netflix.com documentaries are the worst. They never tell you what is real footage vs what is a recreation. With documentaries being borderline Journalism I would argue that it is unethical.

Early npm and Node.js design decisions resulted in the biggest software ecosystem in existence, for the most used programming language in the world. We shouldn't pretend this is a net bad thing. But yes, it came with tradeoffs. A more competent current steward could have mitigated these tradeoffs.
All the good that TypeScript did to the Node ecosystem, npm is undoing it

How can a serious company build on top of this ecosystem that is one npm update away from dependency compromise happening

(I am serious: I'd expect more greenfield startups to not go with Node b/c of it)

New, w/ @mulchy.bsky.social & @djbyrnes1.bsky.social:

ICE shot & killed an immigrant in the Chicago suburbs yesterday.

Then they immediately gave a misleading account of events.

Chicago erupted in chaos and a father who lived here for decades is dead. This is what really happened:
What happened to Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez
Immigration agents shot and killed an unarmed 38-year-old father outside Chicago on Friday—and their initial narrative of events was quickly disproven by videos captured by witnesses.

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

How do you refer to technical documents that you write at work to get feedback before writing software?

RFC or TDD or something else?

The video games of my childhood are perfectly preservable in easily emulated, single-file ROM formats. Maybe things like PICO8 will become future nostalgia for the current generation of kids. Otherwise good luck playing Fortnite or Roblox in a few decades.

macOS has this long standing annoying feature where if you throw your cursor against the far right side of a screen, click and drag down or up like you're attempting to drag a scrollbar, the 1px window border gets selected and the entire window moves as if you were dragging the title bar.
