The number one job of all small-d democrats over the next 11-35 months is to build a controlling majority within the Democratic coalition for radical political and constitutional reform. A Democratic federal government is coming, we have to be ready to end this war.
this week has made me the most optimistic that I've been since the election that we're going to get out of this intact, or some vague approximation thereof

(whether we can successfully rebuild from there, I am more skeptical about, but first things first)

a thread
What your centrist, consultant-brained elected Dem doesn't realize (or, more often than not, actively refuses to) is that these are the same exact thing.

Good government is the enforcement of the laws for the common good, and the reconstruction amendments mandate such governance.
i don't want a unifying Dem who promises to return to good government.

i want an angel of death who promises the government the reconstruction amendments promise.

i don't want to win a unifying 70-30.

i want to win 51-49 based on promises of vengeance.
I don’t want to vote for a Democrat who promises to get Trump’s voters to vote for them. I want a Democrat who wants to put Trump in prison

Your refrigerator shouldn’t randomly start advertising to you. Cars shouldn’t play ads while you are driving.

As a programmer, I know why companies are putting ads in everything (they want money) & how to stop it (laws).

my unironic philosophy of judicial power, the rule of law, and democratic constitutionalism:

obey all district court orders and rulings (even when ridiculous), ignore all supreme court orders and rulings.
It's good—very good, and very important—that district courts keep issuing these 100-page rulings upholding the law. It must be incredibly dispiriting to see them overturned in a two-page, lawless, unsigned order, but please, keep them coming. They expose SCOTUS' corruption like nothing else.

More that twice, if you count Shelby, Brnovich, and Rucho.
They’ve nullified the 14th amendment once already, they don’t care what the constitution says, only what their political allies want it to say

The only appropriate response here, morally, legally, politically, is to loudly say that any ruling contrary to the text is unconstitutional and will be ignored.

No elected Dem will say that, of course.

Every Democrat going on air should take the first question and then say something like “Before I answer that I need to express my outrage and disgust at the president’s bigoted and vulgar insults about the Somali people. There is something seriously wrong with him. He is a sick man.”

Thinking on this a bit, I don't think this viewpoint is actually conservative (in any sense). It codes that way because the language we need to use here is historically small-c conservative in the western european religious tradition, but the moral sentiment is, I would argue, actually quite
not to get all conservative or anything as an inveterate homosexual stoner myself but the people in charge of American society are decadent, hedonistic demons motivated by their basest urges, their pettiest grievances, and their vilest bigotries

You could almost argue that the "Kamala is for they/them" ad was *really* targeted at Democratic elites and pundits who'd long ago talked themselves into an anxious transphobia.

But, of course, the reality is that the GOP was also high on its own supply here and genuinely believe the ad connected.

I keep saying it, and saying it, and saying - cis people, if you are a trans ally we need you to stand up for us, visibly and loudly and constantly. It's no longer enough - for anything, but especially trans rights - to assume that the default position is supportive, because it just isn't.
this is a key point. various elite centrists and liberals have become radically pilled on transphobia (likely on Vichy Twitter) and joined the right-wing exterminationist crusade

Federal immigration enforcement officials called off a planned raid on Canal Street today shortly before it was slated to begin.

New Yorkers who heard about the raid showed up at the garage where the feds had gathered, and as federal agents tried to leave, the NYPD cleared the way for them.

It is unfathomable that the USG lawyers would sign off on a no-survivors boat strike (no get of jail free card).

There's clear precedent dating back to World War II trial of Germans for that very act, which lawyers know well.

A significant part of recovering from Trump 2.0 is going to be prosecuting its lawbreaking and the non-administration officials who aided it.

I'm not a lawyer but the 'Conspiracy against rights' statute (18USC241) seems like it could be a vehicle for pursuing non-state actors in this regard.

They believe that Trump will use the formal powers of the government and whatever informal powers he may have to extract costs from them if they do not play ball and they equally believe that the anti-Trump coalition will not extract these costs.

So we need to extract those costs.
given how unpopular Trump is, it’s insane that civil society/universities/law firms are still asking themselves “how do I stay on Trump’s good side” rather than “how do I avoid facing consequences for complying with Trump’s illegal demands”
New Gallup poll shows Trump's approval hit a new low for his second term:
-36% approve
-60% disapprove

His approval among Republicans went from 91% in January to 84% in November

Another series I'd commission would be about our near future: the fallout from Section 31.

The public finds out and is horrified. The Federation Council realizes that turning a blind eye to extraordinary war measures was an inexcusable mistake and the order goes out: Section 31 must be destroyed.
This dictator president wouldn't let tarantino anywhere near star trek, although someone (gilroy?) would be commissioned to make a post-Dominion war movie.

I'd also banish the Star Wars sequels to Legends and remake them ala Evangelion. Give Boyega and Ridley the acting roles they deserve.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.
