i mean i guess it worked for them the show got famous in part for being sooooo dark and edgy but it really felt like a gimmick and like they hadn't put much thought into why they were making the changes they did beyond publicity

supposedly it was a budget thing? but honestly for me the show fails from the beginning because of its overly edgy and gritty depiction of the entire world and stuff like replacing consensual sex scenes with rape scenes and shit like that

i guess i view it partly as satire but i won't pretend its perfectly ideologically consistent. i think some people involved in production definitely had some subversive ideas but not everyone was in on the joke, so to speak

tbf predator does have some interesting things to say as a meta commentary on american action movies and the effects of american imperialism but honestly i think it springs more from predator 2 which had basically nothing to say at all (and contained that one alien easter egg)

i don't hate everything about the show but it was off the rails long before they ran out of books if you ask me
