never been too big on chat pile since they're not melodic enough for me, but a healthy dose of pedigo's melancholic americana is exactly what they needed to become My Type of Shit. need more sludge country in my life.

as i've said recently, i'm a woman of simple tastes. this is psychedelic doom metal with a fantastic female vocalist, some post-rock elements, and a saxophone on one track. that's all i really need to love an album.

was tentative coming in, but this fucking bangs. the songs are all nicely stretched-out and in one case totally reinterpreted, barre is going crazy on the guitar, and the piano/organ is insane. probably won't replace the original for me, but god damn.

had to take a break from eternal, so jumped ahead. fantastic episode, with absolutely stunning visual design and weapon/enemy additions that fit in with the original content while still feeling like a proper successor to doom 2. not the best, but damn good.

too much. it's as if id looked at all the (overblown) criticisms of eternal and made them a core part of the game: enemies that need specific weapons to defeat, confusing level design with too much platforming, even worse story. at least the marauder fights are good.

wasn't sure this would be my thing, but god damn, it really is just that good. i like the version of "think" here better than the blues brothers version i grew up with, and the rest is just energetic and funky enough to keep me all in.

really good, super melodic atmoblack with some particularly doom-y sections that i loved. definitely gonna listen to more from these guys.

not only an absolute masterpiece of lovecraftian horror, but probably the most ambitious and gorgeous thing i've ever seen accomplished in any visual medium. not too happy about the sexualization of isma, but i guess that's manga for you.

look, i'm a woman of simple tastes. this is an avant-garde black metal album with two 15-minute tracks and a trumpet. it doesn't really take that much to please me--just astounding complexity and musical virtuosity and brass instruments

a surprisingly relaxed album, feeling almost like easycore at points. i loved the soft experimentalism and a capella/choral sections in the first few songs, but the album seems to run out of tricks after that and become just nice post-hardcore.

weird and inventive and tuneful in a way that feels distinctly american, setting them apart from the current wave of british experimental rock that's been so popular lately. it's really good! makes me want to return to their previous album, too.

really good melancholy country album with some alt and bluegrass elements. i wasn't fully enchanted by it, but something about it definitely grabbed me, and i know i'll be relistening soon to get a better handle on it.

maybe a little disappointed, if only because of all the hype surrounding this one. it's another cardiacs album! the second disc is a lot better than the first, and it makes me wish they had cut it down significantly. a good farewell to the band but not a great one.

shock AOTY contender. indie pop concept album written from the perspective of bugs during and after the apocalypse. manages to avoid being too twee thanks to really clever and sardonic lyricism. made me cry over a fictional mosquito. needs way more eyes.

an interesting fusion of prog and surf rock. feels a little gizz-y at points. it's a bit short, with extremely bite-sized song lengths that often feel a little fragmentary, but i enjoyed it. i'll be keeping an eye on what this group does next.
