"Left on the economy, right on the culture," is just fascism in the end. Also it will never take you left on the economy in the long run, because a machine built for eating people will keep eating people.
"Left on the economy, right on culture" is also, as needs repeating a hundred thousand time, the central lie of fascism.

OF COURSE it appeals to the in-group who thinks their well-being AND their prejudices will be pandered to.
The thing about "left on the economy, right on culture" is it's based on analysis of swing voters. Those voters are often low attention and their politics are often not especially coherent. Which is fine for them, it's not their job to run the country, but, you know, the government is

This incredibly irresponsible alcoholic idiot is calling for 500 additional troops in Washington. Because that won't incite more violence.

Everything about this silly "Secretary of War" is about saber rattling and pretending he is so strong. He really must have been picked on in school.

Republicans are purposely and strategically incompetent on antiterror; they hope for violent attacks they can frame as terrorist, to justify accelerating the terrorist violence they’re already enacting against the US civilian population.
2/ nor can we forget Thomas Fugate, the 22 year old Trump campaign worked appointed as the lead counter terrorism coordinator at DHS.

The BBC joins a long list of media companies now obeying in advance. I can't say I'm surprised or at this point even angry. It is a structural flaw in legacy media

All I can do is promise that Democracy Docket will never bow down or bend a knee. It will remain unapologetically pro-democracy.
NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

The corruption and bigotry and terror, and the damage done by it, are almost impossible to fathom, but as a society we must fathom it.

If we are lucky, we'll get out of this, and there will be calls to "look forward, not back." Those who say it will say its to heal. It's to avoid doing their job.

It's not a matter of whether or not we'll have such tribunals. It's whether or not we can still manage to have them in prosecution of fascist Republicans for crimes against humanity. If we can't, fascist Republicans will eventually hold them against everyone else for the crime of humanity.
Happy to chat with the administration about the Nuremberg tribunals.

Including about the crime of enforced disappearance and the limits of the defense of superior orders.
