There’s a library social media trend where they show a staff member asking a children’s librarian for things and they get more ridiculous as time goes on.

Children’s librarians do have a lot of weird stuff. But what you should really be afraid of is when they go “I could probably make that.”

Tate just lost against a no-name boxer (badly). Guess violence isn't so easy to enact when you don't have a fifty-pound advantage and the element of surprise.

It doesn't make up for the damage he's done, but it's heartening his seized assets will be used to combat violence against women and girls.
More than £1m seized from Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan from bank accounts in Devon will be used to combat violence against women and girls

This is that good shit. Straight to my veins.

BE LOUD ABOUT HOW YOU HELP PEOPLE. Signal the fuck out of your virtue. Peer pressure people into kindness. Make it cool and badass to help strangers not for clout but because it feels good for everyone to partake in their society. It rocks! Do it!
This is my Christmas gift to my homeless neighbors, to the volunteers who get great joy from helping them…and, yes, to myself. Merry Christmas to all!

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s bill making pediatric transition care of any kind a federal felony to provide, punishable by up to a decade in prison “would not have passed without three turncoat House Democrats: Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, and Donald Davis of North Carolina.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene drew up a bill making it a federal felony to provide pediatric transition care of any kind. The ultimate goal is a ban on all trans health care and the end of civil rights ...

one of the things being a romance reader has taught me is that purity culture (all sex is bad) and porn culture (all sex is salacious/emotionally hollow) are just two sides of the same coin, and it's really not worth fighting with either group of people.

What this means is that we have a significant data quality issue.

Due to lack of coverage, lack of adequate reporting, and etc. we don’t have an accurate depiction of our current Covid landscape.

Meaning things will be missed, and we will be hit hard and won’t know it until it’s too late.

I would call the US Covid Variant tracking by the CDC unhelpful and non-representative of the current Covid variant ecosystem.

The month lag in reporting is one thing, but the incredibly sparse (low samples/low coverage) for variant sequencing - provided near solely by public labs - worsens this

Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

If you're not trans, I don't think I can fully explain how important this is.

It's so powerful that one of the most circulated science media publications in the world has come out and said "trans children are real and providing transition care improves their lives." That's groundbreaking.
The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

i think the way i see it now is that platonic, romantic, sexual, etc… they’re more like classes, rather than a linear path of unlockable features, and i think the phrase “more than friends” has actually done a lot of harm to how we view and value platonic friendships as a culture!

We don’t have enough hospital beds to care for the sick kids we already have even without stripping vaccine recommendations. Our PICU is full. Our NICU is full. The pediatric acute care floors are nearly full.

"I read with interest your recent article lamenting the current administration’s policy on affirmative action. I know that you are black and biased"

At that point I just scrolled to see how long it was (A: LONG) and replied Thank you for reading!

I keep wanting to say something, and I keep not knowing what to say.

The trans community does not harm cis people by existing. They are just trying to live their lives, same as anyone else. That life doesn't look exactly like mine; my life doesn't match anyone else's. That's okay.
