BLU was a big blue roan burro, also from Alkalai Springs, NV. My friend photographed a wild herd of black + 1 blue roan burro in this area a year or so before BLM gathered them, and we believe this was BLU. BLU now lives with friends in AZ. #BurroPortrait

I believe this piece was done in dedication to brilliant young Canadian artist, Matthew Wong, who took his own life in October of 2019 at the age of 35.

Rooted in his everyday life and experiences, Kahn’s enigmatic landscapes, portraits, and dreamscapes blend real and surreal elements. The artist has remained committed to a figurative mode of expression over the course of more than five decades, using a distinctive formal language to achieve a nuanced and poetic rendition of the simultaneous splendor and mundanity of the world around him. His surfaces are meticulously constructed according to precise geometries and chromatic and spatial relationships, wherein the artist employs perspective and light to establish an illusory sense of depth that underscores the resonances imparted by the recurring cast of people, places, and symbols. Born in 1979 in Tunis, Foued grew up in Tunisia. He then lived in the Middle East for a few years before settling in France. Without formal art training, he emphasizes the imperfections of his drawing, thus developing a naive, surreal, and unique style. He experiments with different types of media and techniques. His work illustrates human relationships and the relationships between man and animal, whether real or surreal, and carries varied and often non-conformist messages. His inspiration is fueled by his travel memories, ethnic arts, but also by the scenes from everyday life or the interpretation of one's own dreams. He finds his references in his passion for calligraphy, street art and colours, as well as in the works of Carlo Zinelli, Bill Taylor, Victor Brauner, Lesage and many others.
