1/5 A walk in the woods
I post a photo every day (most of the time). During the week they are part of a set, and more random at weekends. For my first week here some shots around Chalet Wood in E #London 's #Wanstead Park.

3/5 Orford Ness #infrared

Looking towards the buildings used in the nuclear programme to develop the conventional explosive triggers.

A dramatic black and white landscape photograph capturing a vast, windswept plain stretching toward the horizon under heavy, brooding storm clouds. In the foreground, rough grassland shows weathered tracks or paths cutting through the terrain, with a solitary fence post standing at an angle. The middle distance reveals what appear to be fortified structures or military installations silhouetted against the turbulent sky. The composition emphasizes the stark contrast between light and shadow, with breaks in the dense cloud cover allowing shafts of light to illuminate patches of the landscape below, creating a moody, atmospheric scene that conveys both the remoteness and raw power of nature in this exposed setting.

Another #monochrome shot in 590nm #ir from the former weapons research site in #Suffolk - now a wonderful mix of bleakness, nature and history.

"Black and white photograph of a rural countryside landscape with a small stone cottage situated on the left side of a narrow road. Power lines and tall wooden utility poles stretch across the scene. The foreground and surrounding fields are covered with dry grass and low vegetation. Dramatic, cloudy sky dominates the upper portion of the image, with dark and light cloud formations creating strong contrast."

1/5 Orford Ness #infrared

A return to Orford Ness for #monochrome shots in 590nm #ir This was for many years a weapons research site but is now looked after by the @nationaltrust.org.uk. Only accessible by boat off the coast of #suffolk.

A weathered wooden fence post stands amid windswept dune grasses in this striking black and white landscape photograph. In the foreground, delicate teasel seedheads rise on slender stems, their spiky forms silhouetted against the wild grasses. Behind them, the old post leans slightly, with a rusted wire still attached, suggesting former boundaries now reclaimed by nature. In the middle distance, a dark rectangular structure—possibly a lookout tower or bunker—sits prominently on the sandy terrain. The dramatic sky dominates the upper half of the image, with layers of dark storm clouds creating striking contrast against bright breaks of light, adding a moody, atmospheric quality.

#abstract art on the side of a bridge somewhere in Wandsworth not far from the Thames with nature breaking through.

#photography #everydaybeauty #london #foundart
A weathered urban wall composed of large rectangular panels in varying shades of teal, turquoise, dusty pink, and rust-red, showing signs of age with peeling paint, stains, and texture. Small yellow-green weeds grow from cracks at the base where the wall meets the concrete ground, adding organic contrast to the geometric composition.

Throwback Saturday Looking for a snap with a #glow theme for the #BlueSkyArtShow I thought of this bridge night shot from 2017 shot in SW Ireland. I can't remembr the exact location but I'm fairly sure it was in County Cork.

#photography #nightphotography #ireland #bridge #reflection
A moody twilight scene of a low bridge stretching into calm, misty waters. A line of glowing street lamps creates warm orange reflections on the still surface, their light softening into halos through the fog. The atmospheric blue hour lighting and mirror-like reflections create a serene, almost dreamlike quality to this waterfront landscape.

Here's someone who really, really doesn't want you to park in front of his garage.

I sympathise.

"Urban street scene showing a white roller shutter garage door with multiple parking restriction signs including disabled parking and 'No Parking - Keep Clear' notices. A bright orange traffic cone stands in front of the door. The entrance is flanked by OSB board on the left and exposed orange brick on the right, with burgundy horizontal cladding visible above and to the right."

Rather lovely willows along a path in Thamesmead.

#photography #willows #london
A winding gravel path curves through a natural landscape on an overcast autumn day, bordered by large weeping willow trees with cascading green and yellow foliage on the left, and mixed deciduous trees in autumn colors in the background, with dried grasses and wild vegetation lining both sides of the peaceful walking trail.

I like the #symmetry and colour scheme in these #basketball courts, with some top #streetart
A vibrant urban basketball court with colorful painted surfaces featuring orange, red, purple, and blue sections divided by white court lines. The court is surrounded by tall concrete walls covered in bright graffiti murals depicting faces and abstract designs. A person looks down at a basketball sitting on the court. The surrounding brutalist architecture includes gray apartment buildings rising above the court, creating an enclosed, street-style playing area typical of inner-city recreational spaces.

If Thamesmead is known for anything it's as a dsytopian location in Clockwork Orange. But it's very green with waterways, paths and well landscaped open spaces.

Here's a #heron.

#photography #london
A grey heron stands at the water's edge on a grassy bank, photographed through overhanging tree branches that frame the scene with natural bokeh. The elegant wading bird displays its characteristic blue-grey plumage and long neck while positioned near the calm water, with scattered autumn leaves visible on the grass.

Silver Efex Pro and a very similar workflow to what I would use for IR.

No. I took my usual walkabout camera, but it was pretty dark, devoid of much colour and lit by a random mix of odd lights with different colour temps. So BW it became.

1/5 Thamesmead

This week a set from a walk through Thamesmead - a 1960s social housing development built on marshes south of the Thames on the east of London. This is how I arrived - a footbridge over the railway from Abbey Wood.

#photography #blackandwhite #symmetry
A black and white photograph showing a covered pedestrian walkway or tunnel with distinctive corrugated metal arches creating a repeating semicircular pattern that draws the eye toward a vanishing point. The ribbed metal ceiling and walls form concentric rings that diminish in size toward the tunnel's exit, where natural foliage is visible. The path has concrete walls at the base with small rectangular openings or vents, and the smooth pavement leads forward through this industrial-style covered passage, creating a strong sense of perspective and depth.

5/5 West Ham Engine House

Two details shots today from around the beam engines that once lifted West Ham's sewage up to the Northern Outfall sewer so it could run down to the Beckton sewage works.

4/5 West Ham Engine House

The first snap shows the beam of one of the engines - pushed and pulled by the cylinders under the LH end. The second is under the RH end, it shows the link from the beam to the flywheel that ran the pumps for West Ham's sewage.

#classicmono #photography #blackandwhite
"Symmetrical interior view of an abandoned Victorian-era engine house captured in black and white. Two massive diagonal beams of a 19th century steam beam engine dominate the frame, extending from lower corners toward the upper center where they connect to a central pivot mechanism. Metal guardrails create safe walkways on either side of the historic machinery. The brick walls show heavy weathering and water damage characteristic of long abandonment. A row of five identical arched windows with white frames provides natural light from the upper story. The industrial corrugated metal roof structure is visible above. This type of beam engine was commonly used for pumping water in mines, waterworks, and factories during the Industrial Revolution. The composition emphasizes the geometric lines of the engineering against the architectural elements, creating a striking study of industrial archaeology."
