We see one of the Chatsworth carved lions laying on his plinth. He’s a rather splendid beast and his charm is enhance by the festive garlands he’s adorned with.

A landscape image taken on a snowy day, not this year we haven’t had the pleasure of snow yet….. Looking across the image filling the first two thirds we have a very large festive wreath, it was part of the decoration at Haddon Hall Christmas market. There is a decent dusting of snow on the ground which enhances the wreath with its berry adornments. Looking up the slope through the wreath we have the hall itself, which is incidentally the complete medieval manor houses in England. The top right is filled with a magnificent tree.

A panoramic image of a wonderful sunrise on the island of Fuerteventura. What a treat greeted me down on the beach, the sky turned red, orange and gold right before my eyes, what made it even better was having a lagoon in front of me to reflect all those magnificent colours. The image is approximately a 50/50 split top to bottom. The top is filled with that amazing sky and the bottom the lagoon. On the left we have a sliver of beach topped with palm trees, central in the lagoon we have a small clump of vegetation with more dotted through it up to the right. Right over on the horizon is the lifeguard’s look out, but it does look very tiny. I would return to the island in an in if I knew I’d be treated to more sunrises such as this 🌞

Above it are stained glass windows that span the whole width of the image. In the top left corner is a picture of Bede it’s attached so it looks down on the tomb itself, which we don’t see in the photo. Central at the top is a beautiful vaulted ceiling.

An autumnal landscape image. I’m failing on two counts 1st is autumn not winter 2nd they aren’t French hens. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a French hen let alone photographed one….. I hope these will be acceptable. The whole image is filled with autumn colour. The background is trees of god there are clipped hedges of green and yellow and the ground is grass covered with fallen leaves. Central we have a handsome and proud cockerel standing tall and looking over his trio of ladies. We only clearly see one of the hens as the others are behind her with just tails showing. All are busy pecking the ground.

Taken standing in the shallows a retreating wave is washing over the sand in front of me and other carry on doing the same as the beach runs into the image. On the left is a sandbar and further across from it is a lagoon on with kitesurfers are doing their thing. We can’t really see them but we can see two kites at a distance. On the horizon there is a hill, being a Canary Island it really made of sand but it does stand quite tall. Nestled in below it is a hotel. The whole image is bathed in the sun, though it’s approaching winter here in the UK I still feel the sun on my back as I look at this photo ☺️

A portrait oriented image of the blue hour at a local landmark known as Curbar Edge. Taken lowdown close to the ground the bottom of the frame is filled with heather, being the blue hour the light is low so although it has some colour it’s not popping. What does stand out are the large rocks/boulders above it, which run up both sides of the image to the top third. They are stacked one on top of each other, have interesting shapes and are patterned with lichens. Looking between them we see distant trees resplendent in autumn colours. Beyond these are hills and above these on the top third is the early morning sky full of clouds in various shades of blue.

On the bottom left an amazingly blue river flows into the image and continues until it bends and disappears, on the right is a path leading to a lovely wooden bridge that skirts rather than crosses the river, it’s to take you over a tributary, behind the bridge is a huge boulder, presumably deposited there by glacial action many years previously. Beyond the bridge and bolder are large conifers towering up towards the blue sky.

This is one from the archive. It was taken on a very cold, but exceedingly beautiful morning just before the sun came up. Coming in on the bottom left and then running away into the image is a river and the river is glowing red and orange as it reflects the colours in the sky. Across the rest of the bottom of the image is grass made white with a thick layer of frost. In the near distance are trees and an old ruined mill, above everything is a sky full of colour. Orange, red, yellow and blue. I can still see it now in my mind’s eye it was such a spectacle.

A portrait oriented macro image of a single tulip in elegant decline. The tulip is slightly to right of centre and the stem has become crooked kinking out to the left. It enters the bottom of frame and runs up almost to the top. It has a single leaf on the right of the stem that curves towards the right, two of the aging petals on the flower are arching downward and one of them reaches the top of the leaf. To me the pose of the flower puts me in mind of a very elegant, elder, gentleman who is taking a breather leaning on his walking stick.

A landscape oriented image taken one recent wintery walk. It’s generally been pretty mild, in fact it’s gone mild again now, but we recently had two very cold days. In the image we see a frozen pond, close to so the icy surface fills the frame. It has a slightly blue hue and is marked with frozen ripples and bubble. Just walked into frame from the left is male mallard duck and his reflection in the ice. He is mid stride with his closest foot in the air, almost appearing to be skating.

A landscape oriented infrared image. Taken standing on the lawns in the garden at Chatsworth looking down through trees to the house. The lawn sweeps away from me and on either side of the image are trees. The one on the left just has branches arching into the frame on the right is a complete tree and part of its neighbour. The top of the image is sky with clouds, a dark looking sky and bright clouds because of the infrared effect. In the middle of the image, perhaps breaking the rules but for me it works, is the house, glowing in summer sunshine. I enjoy infrared photography, light can be a little too harsh for regular photography during summer days, so it can be the perfect time to take out the IR. Especially when there is such a lovely sky as we have here.
