Always remember that a parliamentary majority can (purport to) render a country "safe" by an Act. The Conservatives sought to do that with Rwanda, regardless of the facts.
Another chilling aspect... The Tories simply passed a law declaring Rwanda "safe".

Do we really trust that this govt or the next won't resort to similar tactics if this finds them politically convenient?

There's a trend for Americans to name their home.
But forget the Brits with "Rose Cottage" or "Dunroamin", these guys choose "Hampton House" or "Rancho Relaxo"
I'm against all house-naming, but especially if you live on an unlit country road and are impossible to find

‘No head should ever have to consider the impact on their attendance figures of accepting a pupil onto the school’s roll’: @michaelt1979.bsky.social warns that the DfE’s AI-powered attendance targets will jeopardise inclusion
Why AI attendance targets will make inclusion harder
There are multiple issues with the government’s new AI-powered attendance targets - but the most pressing is that they will deter schools from being inclusive, argues headteacher Michael Tidd

Kirsty Gallacher is banned from driving after her 5th driving offence in 8 years
She asked to be spared from a ban so she could drive in order to "take care of her sons" and to "receive medical care for a benign brain tumour"
In 2017 she was found to be 3 times over the legal alcohol limit

Today the Times has a sympathetic article with sexual assaulter Luis Rubiales. Have we learnt nothing from Epstein?

1. the price would have gone up even if their partner had not died

2. this is why you should shop around every year - my Aviva car insurance went up 100% in 3 years, despite no change in circumstances - just cancel and get a cheaper deal

3. stop putting AI in headlines like it means something

Poor Pete Dick. Only 15 mph over the speed limit and they fined him. What a victim.

Alan Dershowitz is one of those claiming Epstein was not a pedophile because he pleaded guilty to one count of having sex for money with a 17-year-and-10-month-old person. "That’s not a pedophile." See this important response from Julia Brown, the brave reporter who broke the news on this

Two truths:
The vast majority of them are of course White.
The proportion of them that are members of Parliament is higher than that for the general population
Full-on, unapologetic racism, not dog whistle but bloody foghorn, is now mainstream on the right.

Is this 2 metres x feet, ie 6000 cm^2 of film?

What's so bad about the word million, and why is film measured in feet?

Spoiler alert: at the end of #KingAndConquerer Harold dies. BUT after EIGHT episodes I would have thought at least we would get a decent "arrow in the eye" shot. No, just a bit of stabbing and throat slitting, then William handily sticks an arrow into Harold's head. That's not what I signed up for.

only in the small print of this article do they make clear that the pensioners paying an extra £2,500 of tax would have to have
“earnings over £125,140”

I know many pensioners are asset rich but how many have income at that level?
