Chateaubriand was right about everything.
“In France, whenever we build so much as a shack, we make a terrible fuss, with a multitude of machines, men, and noise. In Italy, they undertake immense things almost without stirring.”

Virginia Woolf on Wuthering Heights:

“The impulse which urged her [Emily Bronte] to create was not her own suffering or her own injuries. She looked out upon a world cleft into gigantic disorder and felt within her the power to unite it in a book.”

Apologies for my delay, #LastMan200. I have been trying to think a way in to Chapter 2 of Mary Shelley’s THE LAST MAN amidst the horrors. But perhaps we can begin with Shelley’s meditations on the power of friendship, and on her yoking of gentleness to justice.

Everyone in Chicago saw how close this violence was if you interacted with these federal agents. There’s several photos of them directly pointing their weapons at members of the press. They will not stop their violence because that is their actual purpose. They exist to terrorize us into submission.

Marimar Martinez was the first US citizen shot by ICE.

They claimed she was a terrorist. Said she was brandishing a weapon.

They lied. Video footage exonerated her and showed the ICE agent shot her five times.

He bragged to other agents “five shots, 7 holes”.

A wide grin was plastered on Marimar Martinez’s face Thursday as she thanked her attorneys outside an Illinois courtroom and told reporters, “I’m just blessed. I’m happy.”

The fundamental tenet of Robert Peel, who founded the first municipal police force in London, is that the police are the people and the people are the police. Once this connection is destroyed, you are simply an occupying force. This is why ICE should be withdrawn from Minneapolis, today.

All politicians do performative acts of service.

Some choose to do pull-ups with soldiers while calling them "war fighters" and ignoring all of their worth and value other than hate and killing.

Some choose to participate in homeless sweeps, and revel in throwing away what little people have left.
