if you want to do a fun experiment, turn off your phone + computer for a week. just one week. not as a digital vacation, not as a retreat into the woods. you have to go to work, plan hangouts, pay rent, deal with a leak in your ceiling, get a menu, find a bus line, do laundry, check weather...etc
People really don’t understand how ubiquitous the expectation that everyone has a smartphone has become
"why doesn't he have a cell phone" well, he's in his 80s and has parkinson's. he can't even read a newspaper anymore. he never learned how to use a cell because his wife handled that part for him. the fix? put a landline in every patient's room! they're ALL elderly! this isn't rocket science
