Things are bad and are getting worse because of centrism and conservatism hollowing out our future. Both of these political positions refuse to confront and fix the real problems of the present. They encourage decay. The main difference between them is the speed at which the decay happens.

The future is no longer a better place.

In the past, a young person could have a shitty job that paid them enough money to live in a shitty apartment in a big city & go to clubs & have fun, knowing they'd eventually move up to less shitty jobs & buy a house.
Now that shitty apartment costs most of their paycheck, and there's no moving up.
