Fond of fabulous frocks and all things glamorous
I took some cuttings of two different dogwoods and potted them in 4 different soil types (see alt text). An experiment to see which one the dogwood thrives best in and if there is any difference between the red and green dogwood.

I'm a gardener now.

And a scientist

Dear Pottery Throwdown

Isn't it either candlesticks or candle holders? Candlestick holders would be holders for candlesticks. Which aren't a thing.

Yours ever pedantically...

Watching Pottery Throwdown on delay and loving Siobhan's outfit and styling. She looks stupendous 😍

I'm halfway through a special offer Now subscription with a week's free film content. After 3 days I have run out of films I wanted to watch, despite hours of desperate browsing. I have 18 more days of TV to go and I'm at the same point. This is why I don't get full price, regular subscriptions

This would be a better moment than 1 Jan to celebrate New Year, though I'm still holding out for spring equinox to feel all bouncy and optimistic and full of good resolutions
Happy #Imbolc, ushered in by Brigid and her hare. Nature is stirring, there’s a full moon. The winter is ebbing away. The seeds scattered last year are waking up. Pat yourself on the back , you’ve made it through another winter.

Countered Music Man with a palette cleanser of On Moonlight Bay. Absolutely no substance but always enjoy it. Whilst Doris Day and Gordon MacRae are billed as the stars, for me it's Wesley (Billy Gray)and Stella (the ever wonderful Alice Wickes) who steal the show.

Also, I might fancy Leon Ames 🤷

I love musicals up to 1962 (excluding Sound of Music) but somehow I've never seen The Music Man.

Halfway through watching it now and... no. Just no. Total waste of Shirley Jones, and Robert Preston just raps, not in a good way. Horrible music (76 trombones...) Herminone Gingold great tho

Oh my gosh. Catherine O'Hara died. Even if she wasnt immortal, which I believed she was, 71 is so *young*. What a loss. Very sad for her famiand friends

I have an important announcement.

It stayed light until just before 5.

That's more than hour longer than a month ago

I only realised v late last night that yet again I hadn't realised Monday was Monday and missed the final of Only Connect 😬

MORNING!

I'm a bit excitable because this is the first morning of my (planned) month off.

Not doing *anything* today

I'm conducting a scientific survey*:

1. What's your personal best time for switching off Jeremy Vine?

2. What's the record number of obstacles you've had to hurdle to so?

(*straw poll)

Full marks to these young guys who probably saved lives:

Regarding others:
5 adults in trainers and jeans;
Woman carrying a dog. She had no gloves;
3 groups climbing with 90 minutes to sunset, no crampons/ice axes.
No wonder MRTs are busy. Almost need a gate with kit inspection!

I would NEVER be a cartoon
Yourself, but as a cartoon

I can watch Wicked with my free film trial, but a combination of having read the book (and not rating it) and all the dreadful, performative publicity by its two main stars means that I prob won't go near it.

The moral of the story is be Cillian Murphy with your publicity - much more intruguing

The Ballad of Wallis Island is a FILM.

It deserves all the awards (tho I feel Carey Mulligan's appearance is brief and slight and that plaudits for best supporting actress should go to the wonderful Sian Clifford) but suspect because it's a #lovelyfilm that it will be overlooked for grittier fare

Does this mean people will actually TELL you why they like or recommend a book?

The book feed on here is usually all "post a picture of your favourite book(s)/book you're currently reading, without explanation". A book cover truly helps me decide to pick it up but I'm not psychic about its content
In the spirit of community support and finding things to look forward to, I'm going to run a game next month called #TBRuary! Come talk about the books you want to read and get community recs!

My housemate and I met up with an old colleague today who we haven't seen in a year. Basically we caught up about personal lives, work and the latest gossip on people that we all used to know. Not once did we touch on the state of the world.

Which might be like fiddling whilst Rome is burning

Batch cooking means eating the same thing 4 days in a row (unless you have more freezer space than I have).

I prefer to surprise myself every night

I preferred Fynn's lemurs to Angharad's snails for pottery of the week contender and second place. Agreed with judges for the actual winner of pottery of the week. Gorgeous (and the least Raku-looking of them all, which is a big plus)
January 25, 2026 at 9:02 PM
Watching pottery throwdown amd i've realised I don't like raku.

Hate me all you want

We do Christmas the wrong way around. We have all our parties in the run-up, with the 25th being the peak. We need to go back to celebrating the 12 days of Christmas

It wouldn't surprise me if Jack and Roxy win Traitors by dint of not doing anything and being a bit stupid. Jack prob would have been murdered tonight were it no for the shield.

If Faraaz survives execution then he and Jack will prob win
January 21, 2026 at 11:47 PM
This is only the second series I've watched and it's very clear this is the case. Which is why it should be obvious Rachel is a traitor because if she was a faithful she would have been murdered ages ago
this season has been an extremely pure distillation of the essence of the show, e.g. surviving traitors will be evil, surviving faithfuls will be morons
