This easy walk from Gargrave in #NorthYorkshire passes through pleasant rolling countryside with nice views, especially of Flasby Fell. In part it follows the course of a youthful River Aire and passes the attractive village of Airton. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Nort...

This “there and back” walk from Playa Blanca takes you via the best selection of beaches on #Lanzarote to Punta del Papagayo. As a bonus, just before reaching the point (Punta), is a lovely horseshoe bay with overlooking bars, which provide shade. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Lanz...

This easy, short walk from Gargrave takes you to Haw Crag, a carboniferous reef over 300 million years old. Considering the low summit, the 360 degree view is remarkable, given the minimal effort required to get there. Ideal for short days. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Nort...

Whitbarrow is a limestone plateau which looks like an escapee from the Yorkshire Dales with even sections of limestone pavement, yet it is in the #LakeDistrict. This is a ‘secret’ walk not all being footpaths marked on OS maps but clear on the ground. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Lake...

For those escaping to the sun in #Lanzarote, this is a very easy and short walk climbing Montaña Roja (Red Mountain) at Playa Blanca. It offers the opportunity for a complete circuit of a volcanic crater with superb views. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Lanz...

Earlier post about the Roebuck Inn Otley closing was incorrect. It is the Roebuck in Keighley. Apologies.

A horrifying article in today’s Times. So some of those criminals responsible for the #Horizon injustices may get away with it because there may not be enough funding to prosecute them all? The Government should make available ALL THE FUNDING NECESSARY to nail every one of them!

This Wainstones Walk takes you along a northern escarpment of the #NorthYorkMoors. There are superb views over the surrounding plain, with its patchwork of fields, towards Middlesborough and Roseberry Topping and over Bilsdale and Raisdale. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Nort...

I had intended to revisit this #YorkshireDales walk today, from Burnsall to Grassington except I now have to wait for someone to fix my boiler! A lovely walk with chance for a nice lunch in Grassington. Good views and a riverside walk. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/York...

If you are lucky enough to be in #Lanzarote this is a walk on clear tracks to Montaña Los Rodeos, a mountain of orange rock covered with a grey/black ash. The views from the summit are fantastic, stretching as far as the cliffs at Famara in the north. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Lanz...

As days shorten and there is less inclination to travel far, one perhaps looks for walks closer to home such as this round Eccup Reservoir on the Leeds outskirts. A straightforward route, along clear tracks, reservoir and countryside. See www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/West...

A fascinating site.
Mention us ( @megalithic.bsky.social ) in your ancient site photo posts for a retweet/post if we like them - and we mostly do! #StandingStoneSunday (and non standing stone things too - anything older than about 1000AD/CE, or 'pre-contact' in the Americas)

Today is St Clement's Day, the patron saint of blacksmiths and metal workers.

At Finch Foundry in Devon, blacksmiths will gather to show their skills and complete in the annual snail race. Not what you might immediately think of, the race is to create an iron snail sculpture!
