People basing whether or not something is good based on an aggregate score are the silliest of people. It might give you a general idea as a person to choose where they spend their money but it will not evaluate quality to you personally. Or it shouldn’t.

Something I really love about the recent wicked films is that they feel like actual movies with intentionality behind shot composition, costuming, and use of color. Feels very old Hollywood in that way. And of course the gross cuts and montage

The best way to enjoy art, is to not seek what other people thought about it online after you’ve engaged with it. It’s not good for you, half the engagement isn’t even real, and you don’t need to see everyone’s off the cuff take they shat into the world.

The sequel trilogy will not get the same reevaluation the prequels are getting. They just don’t come from the same artistic place. Maybe the last jedi. I feel like people who consider themselves enfranchised fans should at least know how JJ and Iger pushed George out.

Cinematography is more interesting when it’s used to say something about the narrative, themes, or characters. So much of it in modern film seems to be about fancy angles and frenetic energy to keep the audience from getting bored.

The way a lot of the internet likes to talk about George Lucas and the Star Wars prequels is a pretty low stakes way we could engage with the the way group think and bias festers in society.
