The incentive structures are also all wrong. Keep or miss a deadline in a corporate setting? The people in charge notice. This can affect your career, positively or negatively.
Miss a deadline in academia? No one but an editor or two will ever know.
Miss a deadline in academia? No one but an editor or two will ever know.
The overarching problem remains that academia forces people to do things like project management or at least work within projects that have (often strict) deadlines and most of the people in it aren‘t remotely equipped to do this job.

I had my hormonal IUD (Mirena) removed 6 weeks ago. I had it placed to deal with my endometriosis & adenomyosis. Ever since it‘s out I have had:
- barely any pain and only moderate bleeding/period
- way less bloating
- better skin
- almost zero anxiety when before I was crippled by it
- barely any pain and only moderate bleeding/period

Since this is an international product… if you have the IUD Mirena in your uterus or are considering it: don‘t. Get rid of it.

I guess they cancelled Not Dead Yet because the side characters were just too good, like what a flamboyant bi guy, an autistic guy who fucks, CeCe from New Girl and the only neurotypical white cishet person on the roster is the rich boss?

Serendipity is so underrated. The leads‘ chemistry, stacked supporting cast, superb cinematography, great location shoots, amazing soundtrack, the writing just flows. One of those where you wonder why it wasn‘t a bigger hit. More soon on @infrontofira.bsky.social.

my favorite part of Duchovny's English lit career is that an XFiles character, who gets hit by a bus in the first minutes of the episode, shares a name with the prof who graded his Princeton thesis
Listening to David Duchovny‘s WTF ep and he was ABD English lit and then Maron goes
„You could be a tenured broke English professor having this conversation with a student and wonder why you didn‘t pursue acting“
Am I reverse Duchovny? But fictional Duchovny has tenure 😭😭😭

I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

That “would mark one of the largest single-quarter losses for a tech company in history.”

Universities, public sector admin - this shit will happen in Germany if you all use AI now and integrate it into your day-to-day.
So loss making OpenAI is now begging for US government money to finance its research based on unproven promises of riches to follow at some unspecified date. Is anyone else recalling renaissance alchemists persuading rich patrons to support them because they'd be turning lead into gold any day now?
