So I’ve been chewing on this a bit since I clipped and blocked last night

specifically the “plagiarism machine” catechism that’s sometimes thrown about. I genuinely feel that charge specifically is a rhetoric for babies

I think it’s such an imaginatively impoverished pov for something so… *weird*

a big issue i have with ai discourse is all the blame for failures of everything else in society. gpt isn't *making* people self harm, commit crimes, or engage in harassment. systemic exploitation and violence leads them to talk about those things with robots. open ai shouldn't be the world police.

my favorite of my elden ring tarnished and one of my bloodborne hunters :)

this is a bluesky bubble opinion. 800M+ people use chatgpt every week. I hate Facebook and Instagram and I wish they didn’t exist, but 3B and 2B people use them every month, respectively. it’s very hard to picture a mass or even a niche left backlash against them

i think tech and ai positive people are going to be in for a big shock when anti tech and anti ai sentiment becomes a major part of leftwing politics going forward especially as datacenters continue to destroy communities and raise electricity bills

What is the hypothesized political and policy end-goal, though?

There’s a whole lot of scope there, like I could think of—

Eliminate generative AI?
Eliminate OpenAI, xAI, and other entities?
Require royalties and/or licenses for training data?
Regulate gAI output?
Regulate data centers?

fwiw virtually every ai disagreement i have ever had on this platform is descriptive. like i think my only major prescriptive disagreement I get into is that i don't think copyright is actually a good thing, the remainder is just me, like, wanting to describe the thing correctly

There’s a very surreal conversation I keep having on here where people seem unable to hold two ideas at the same time, and I’m not sure why. It’s simply true that the Big AI platforms like ChatGPT are:
1. Extremely bad for society, in many ways.
2. Very genuinely popular with lots of people.
