Intro post:
I'm Sio (they/she)
Right now I'm a TEFL/TESOL teacher in 🇰🇷
I like cats (I am graciously allowed to live with 2), trees, k-pop, happy endings (not a euphemism) and food. I believe that true kindness and viewing other humans as humans will change the world. More to come when I change jobs!

The kids are alright
My nephew: Are you a girl or a boy?
Me: a boy, I used to look more like a girl but then I turned into a boy
Nephew: How???
Me: I went to the doctor and they gave me some medicine
Nephew: …
Nephew, bragging now: I’M a boy and I didn’t even HAVE to go to the doctor

Labour party today:
- Disabled people can’t drive Audis, BMWs and Mercedes on Motability. No to £25k Audis but £36k Nissans are fine
- Discredited PFI to return for funding NHS projects
- Trial by jury to be axed except for most serious cases

That’s just today

There always seems to be money for cruelty, doesn’t there…
Labour's anti-asylum policies are already fundamentally inhumane and discriminatory. Applying them retrospectively is pure cruelty though. It serves absolutely no purpose. Meanwhile it will increase the costs and bureaucracy of an already dysfunctional Home Office.

This is who she was.
Passionate in her beliefs. Fiercely loyal to her friends. Never afraid to let you know exactly where she stood. The best.

Fun Fact: I remember arguing with her over which of us hated Piggy the most. I was sure I did. She disagreed. It remains unresolved...

As @paleofuture.bsky.social notes in this thread, these images were probably created using Google's Nano Banana Pro image generator. NBP is really good at making photorealistic images that are getting really difficult to spot in the wild.
I've seen this image enough now that I feel like I should point out it's fake.

*Sigh*

It is bad and evil to desire a majority white country. This should not be controversial. Ethnostates are bad. Racial purity is bullshit. There's no such thing as white culture because there's no such thing as the "white race" and white people aren't better at anything than anyone else.

Horrendous & punishing for thousands of people including c.25,000 children seeking protection with their families who got status in the last five years (luckily children in care and care leavers are out of scope of the settlement changes)
At least 160,000 people have been granted refugee status over the past five years. It now seems they are intended to be caught by the Government’s plans to make refugees wait up to 20 years for settlement - even for those just months away from ILR

It's so easy, if someone declines the offer of an alcoholic drink, to just move on to, "Well, is there something else I can get you, instead? Soft drink? Cup of tea?"
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

How is this not the top story on every news bulletin?
This has been happening for years and instead of doing anything to protect children successive governments have made the situation worse. This isn't just on councils. It is part of failings on a State level.

Migrants moving to your local area is not a “legitimate reason” for racism.

LGBT folk being more visible in schools is not a “legitimate reason” for homo/transphobia.

Women not wanting to date you is not a “legitimate reason” for misogyny.

There’s no “legitimate reason” for bigotry.

Just saying.
