Theism is just an ignorant appeal to pre-existence in favour of understanding the emergence of complex properties.

Let's assume for a second that universal basic income would lead to more men playing video games. Is that a worse outcome than working for ICE or in prisons? Is it even bad to play? The reality is that everyone should have the freedom to not do evil work, by having their basic needs met as a right.
Not great that we’ve created a system where the best job opportunities for working class men involve either overseeing other working class people in prison, or working as masked secret police violently hunting down working class immigrants targeted for deportation despite having committed no crimes.
“We’re broken and we’re being poached by ICE,” one official with the prison workers union told ProPublica. “It’s unbelievable. People are leaving in droves.”

#Atheism is not a worldview that a person needs to adopt.

It is simply removing the lens of theism and seeing the world for what it is, not what religious people believe it is.

It must be so confusing for theists to reconcile science (evolution) with their religious beliefs

As an atheist, I have never had that problem. I just read up on the latest scientific discoveries & think "oh wow, that's interesting..what could this lead to..?"

I'm so glad I do not have that issue

We could easily house, feed & care for everyone

We could build devices designed to last as long as possible aligning our manufacturing around the needs of the people & planet

We've materially the resources to do so. We're just now using them mostly to pamper the rich. This's why Leftists are angry

⚠️PSA ⚠️Stop giving your hard earned wages to shitty companies own by shitty billionaires who don't pay decent salaries, don't look after their staff or pay their fair share of tax.

I wish more people would stop looking up to the billionaires as aspirational and start recognising their deeply disturbing sociopathic behaviour as a hugely damaging human flaw.

More of this. Its up to each of us to stop supporting shitty businesses.

Economies are for the people.

People don't exist to make profits for companies.

Fuck these shitty businesses.
Baristas are on strike. So guess what? Starbucks doesn’t get a freakin' dime. We stand with the workers, not the billionaire brewing union busters. #NoContractNoCoffee

I remember having a UBI. It was called “living with my parents,” and I had all my food/shelter needs covered, plus free access to a (shared) TV, music, books, a library card, cars I could borrow and more.

I still worked drudge jobs, because I wanted to buy lots of comics and take girls to movies.
Always grinds my gears when people say "No one would work drudge jobs if there was a UBI"

But even staying completely capitalist, I disagree. If I received a baseline living-wage UBI, and then I was offered REWARDS for drudge jobs, I'd take it! I want to save up for treats and travel and hobbies!

Social Welfare helps people out of poverty.

Poverty is one of the leading causes of crime.

Of course I am happy to pay tax to go to social welfare.

It's a no-brainer.

To recap:
•Universal healthcare would save 68,000 lives & $450B annually
•Every $1 spent on SNAP results in $1.80 boost to local economies & small businesses
•The child tax credit decreased child poverty to a historic low of 5.2%, abolishing it increased it by 45%

This is also why universal basic income is such a good idea. Not only would it save money on the high costs of poverty, but it would grow GDP and reduce the costs of healthcare by reducing stress and improving physical and mental health.

One of my “wokest” beliefs is that if you improve the standard of living, give everyone a basic income and healthcare, shelter and good public transportation, you’d have less speeding. I seriously think a lot of speeding is born from a five times removed fear of “if I lose this job, I will starve.”
Just got passed by someone on a two lane road, speed limit is 30, I’m going 30, there are at least two schools on this road and sidewalks right on the street. Lots of pedestrians and many school kids. Still dark out.

Humbly, we’re doing something wrong.

Indeed. We don't talk enough about wages and cost of living. And this is why we need a UBI
Some thoughts on income tax: People who don’t consider themselves particularly high earners - they’re middle class, maybe earning less than their peers - may feel fleeced by taxation because every pay rise is negligible impact.

The 🌎 I want to live in is 1 that will eventually look back at organised religion, hoarding of wealth & corporate success as not only unimportant but dangerous & damaging to society

Nobody needs religion to be moral
Good ideas should benefit everyone
Everyone should have a basic standard of living
