I am so sorry to hear this terrible news. My deep condolences to Faith’s family, loved ones, the Broomfield community, and Colorado.

It is unspeakably tragic.

Rest in peace to Faith Winter, killed by a transportation system she was trying to making safe for others.

You guys really do not understand how good my apartment smells right now, do you?

I baked black bread and now this simmers on my stove. The apartment smells delectable.

Also, framing her as an unknown is light years more accurate than the “inexperienced” frame. While a lot of organizers & people in power have known her for a while, I think it’s accurate to say most residents did not.

Mayor-elect Katie Wilson just announced her transition team, with 61 members overseeing different policy areas. Transition teams are largely an expression of values and policy focus, although I expect some of these folks will end up in the administration. publicola.com/wp-content/u...

It would be so awesome if we had several more E-W rapid ride routes in Seattle. They are a great complement to local service. Maybe experiment with offering limited service on some of the local routes at peak. I do wonder what that combination of service would feel like. Probably pretty awesome.

TBH, I really don’t mind a good fight but I prefer them off-line and I really need to remember that.

Side note, I always felt way more comfortable walking around at night in New York City than I ever have in Seattle. I’m sure part of it is that there are just always more people out at all times of day and night in NYC, but I also live in a fairly dense SEA neighborhood that’s pretty active….

Efficiency fetishism is a virus in pretty much every sector of public administration.
The Labor Party in England is now proposing to get rid of almost all jury trials in England to make the criminal punishment bureaucracy more efficient. This should be a warning for us all. Neoliberals are walking us into the waiting arms of authoritarians.

Like adding Limited stop service at peak may be a great way to increase ridership without screwing people who actually do need to have bus stops close to where they live.
November 26, 2025 at 5:54 PM
The OP I will venture has never depended on the service, never had to repeatedly use the bus to get groceries, care for a small child, run other kinds of errands, and so forth. There are other solutions besides bus stop consolidation. Which by the way does actually cost money.
This can work ... but ADA and other accessibility issues cannot be ignored, either.

My usual bus stop is really close to another stop; but the other stop is at a marine industry and workers use it. The shoulder on the busy highway between the two stops is about a foot wide.
I completed my final count. Out of 10,511 bus stops, I found that 4,360 (41%) of them could be removed to align with national best practices of 1/4 mile spacing. Long-form explainer article and an interactive map are forthcoming. Green dots are removed stops, black are kept stops.

I dunno, if a deeply knowledgeable person who has been reporting on transit for multiple advocacy journo sites for over a decade says they don’t need to know what a frog hopper loop rail (or whatever) is, maybe they don’t actually need to know!

What if that state Sen. instead of telling colleagues not to ask for more money told them to plan to focus most of their time and attention on progressive revenue in the upcoming session?

I hesitate to make the comparison but I wonder if Larry Andrews has ever met Alex Tsimmerman (sp).
November 25, 2025 at 4:51 AM
Pretty sure that the president is already taxing frankincense via tariffs, Larry. It’s imported!
Andrews says we're living under the regime of "Lisa Brown's tariffs ...what's next, will Lisa Brown tax frankincense too before Christmas?"

I just happened to watch a video on this topic. Those in particular were chosen after ww2 by a Montreal linguist for ICAO. They’re similar words in English, French, and Spanish (vs eg “fox”). Foxtrot was almost swapped for football, but was found to be more distinct. src: youtu.be/UAT-eOzeY4M
