I love you, #Boulder.

My latest #Boulder, CO city council update is out.

Lots going on, including automated traffic enforcement coming to more intersections this fall.

(It’s still free to drive the speed limit and obey red lights. 😀)

In the 2025 #Boulder city council election, should voters focus on crime?

Maybe, and crime is a crucial issue.

But the data might surprise you.

Here’s Jill Grano on the numbers, and what’s been going on under this council and the previous one’s watch.

I'm proud to be a part of a team to recognize that and make the hard part of getting it across the finish line our job
... raise $73,000,000 over ten years, assess the costs of motor vehicles more directly and equitably to users, and reduce total costs.

This project is a loooong time coming, and it's the kind of thing that is easy to kick down the road. But the best time after yesterday is now.

Nobody wants to pay more fees. But we also pay for substandard pavement conditions and deferred maintenance that costs more in the long run.

Well done to the City of #Boulder staff team to pass a transportation maintenance fee that will...

News of the fire that has taken out Nederland's shopping center, and the beloved Wild Bear Nature Center, is devastating.

Thank you to first responders for containing it quickly and avoiding any loss of human life.

“In this moment of political, economic and climate turmoil, the #Boulder City Council has managed to keep our city heading in the right direction.”

That’s Daily Camera—endorsing all 4 incumbents for reelection out of 11. That’s:

Speer
Folkerts
Benjamin
Wallach

God bless Portland.
Portland enacts emergency powers of nudity to check federal overreach.
And I was delighted to talk to Mr. Polis and team today at Boulder Chamber Transportation Connections about the prospects for coordinated bus service from
Boulder to future mountain rail.

So many new possibilities are on the horizon for people to live their dreams in #Colorado without a car.
I’m grateful for the partnership btw #Boulder, @colorado.gov, and state+local leaders which is on the verge of bringing 2 new passenger train services to life:

* Commuter rail from Boulder Junction to Denver by 2029

* Boardings to Winter Park 20ish miles south of Boulder even sooner
The Millennium Harvest House Hotel in #Boulder has given way to central, no-car-needed housing for 1000ish CU students now being built. 🤩

TiL the old building lives on:

Thousands of truckloads are being reconstituted into 9+ miles of the new game-changing CO 119 bike path to Longmont. 😍

Watching a panel on "urbanism as climate action." This is a huge, burgeoning field/idea/movement, but the desiccated boomer counsels who decide where climate funding goes are *clueless* about it and so it has to seek funding elsewhere.
Thanks a million to the large number staff and community advocates who have slogged to make this happen.

Thanks also to national advocates like @parkingreform.org, @runonclimate.bsky.social and others working around the country to ease the way. bouldercolorado.gov/parking-land...

The city also has passed an ordinance requiring developers of larger facilities to provide more support for transpo demand mgmt (TDM). It introduces new
quality assurance that includes program design standards, user needs assessments, and accountability. boulderreportinglab.org/2025/09/18/n...
New Boulder ordinance makes developers pay for transit incentives
City Council approved an ordinance requiring developers to pay into an escrow account for transportation benefits, such as RTD EcoPasses.

City of #Boulder has concluded its mega #parking reform.

Parking minimums are now gone. So all those patches of 200 square feet that home-builders have been required to install at a cost of $30,000+ per space can now be used for other things like vegetable gardens, bike parking, and housing.
One of greatest gifts of being an elected official:

The chance to sit with ppl who didn’t vote for me & ask me to consider a reasoned alternative to my thinking—then talk.

It always makes me stronger.

There’s no room in the US for political violence.

The way to a better future is better ideas.
Sometimes people fight “growth” while lamenting how long the list is to get senior housing.

Other times they seek you out at an event to say thanks for being persistent about improving transportation options and present with their gratitude a disco ball.

I will be donating to council chambers.
Great news: #Boulder Junction’s getting a burst of new transit service.

Depot Square Station opens Aug 31 to serve DEN airport (AB2), downtown Denver (FF4), & more.

Thanks RTD & partners for making it happen.

I’m looking forward to working with my council colleagues, staff, and community members to make all this and more happen, and learn and refine as we go.
