Been a while since I read the article, maybe he addresses it - but the other thing consolidation could accomplish is making it a lot quicker to implement big infrastructure projects and that includes things like bicycle networks, especially rail trails, which are such a jurisdictional clusterF

You can afford to more effectively get unhoused people shelter and services. Instead of pointing the finger at all the other jurisdictions and especially the largest jurisdiction.

I do think it should be a priority of WA to consolidate conurbation suburban cities and special districts within UGAs into sizable governments. Independent local gov serving 6k, 3k, 20k, etc people is very inefficient and leads to nonsense patchworks of arbitrary disparities

Tl; dr I think about this article about once a month and definitely every time there’s another election.

You disabled quote posts so replying instead: I tend to be skeptical about applying “efficiency” analysis to public administration b/c it’s often born of unnecessary & harmful austerity measures. Consolation of jurisdictions, though, as described, is a notable exception. IMHO!

NB: I could only get 3 pounds of cubed stew meat at the market. It’s fantastic as ever. The recipe is easily stretched by having it with bread or pouring it over potatoes or rice etc. so probably more economical than it might seem.

Can’t edit the text so the sidebar basically describes roadside food stands in Belgium that sell frites with what is basically a gravy of stewed onions and beef.

I don’t have kids so my version is to call the chickens I sometimes housesit for “kittens” – and sometimes I do that when I see other cute animals out and about. 🤣
