CSIRO 350 job cuts a damning indictment on Government priorities, misses 'golden opportunity' on research
The announcement this week that CSIRO are to cut 350 research jobs is another damning indictment on Australia’s ongoing failure to prioritise research and development.

Calling Labor's current approach "incrementalism" or "small target" or whatever makes it sound like they are are an overly cautious progressive govt. Matters like this show that they are actively pursuing policies that make them indistinguishable from the centre right: not incrementalists at all.
Disgraceful & tragic what governments have done to this once science powerhouse! www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...

"Federal Science Minister...Tim Ayres said the cuts were aimed at refocusing the efforts of the CSIRO towards research priorities, such as critical minerals, iron & steel...in Australia."
CSIRO to cut up to 350 research jobs in major overhaul
After 440 positions were slashed last year, the CSIRO has announced more staff cuts across the country in a bid to remain financially viable.

While it may seem redundant to say “pump it up” after encouraging the listener to “pump up the jam,” the author is underscoring the urgency of pumping up said jam; leaving us to ponder the bleakness of living in a world devoid of it.

Just a reminder - even if the LNP had not decided to dump the net zero target, they would still be irrelevant to what the Govt can do.

Ketan Joshi's Irrational Climate Reset

I am calling for a return to the wild, unacceptable and unthinkably weird idea that we can decide not to live under the thumb of an expensive, deadly and ancient fossil fuel economy

No more hand-wringing about pragmatism. Be idealistic, and don't be sorry 🤜🏽

I assume Sussan’s war on dependency will extend to the $14.9 billion of annual subsidies to major producers & users of fossil fuels? And end the dependency of wealthy property investors on annual tax breaks of $12bn? Or is she just talking people with disabilities?

This thread is very satisfying.
For a project I am working on - how do you think John Howard fundamentally changed Australia - what did he do that we are still feeling the effects of? (Housing, immigration debates, loss of workers rights, black arm band of history, jingoism etc)

Really interested in your takes.
