One of the reasons he's so disliked, imo, is the constant wide eyed, wounded innocence thing where they have no idea why being such gleefully sadistic shites wouldn't go down well with people.
Glad the FT is asking the question. Even if I’m not convinced they found a compelling answer.
I get that Starmer & Reeves are unpopular, I really don’t understand the extent of the dislike.

Allies concede the prime minister and chancellor have made mistakes yet the level of disdain towards them is still striking

The Express is furious about this because the moment you show those who repeat anti-immigration rhetoric the real human stories their narrative collapses.

The “immigrants” are people. Our friends, colleagues and family.

And it’s this nation of neighbours that is what makes Britain great.

This correct, and almost none of it is organically arising from the public. The relentless fear and hate of the last decade was deliberately imposed by opportunist politicians, toxic media outlets, crackpot activists and malignant squillionaires, working hand in hand towards similar goals.
There is absolutely nothing left to the UK but bigotry and spite. A hateful place, you can almost taste it in the air, makes it hard to breathe.
Seems there has been some co-ordination.

the hardest part of writing politically charged fiction is that a good villain needs to be complex, cool and about as right as the protagonist; while evil people in real life are lame, cruel, childish morons motivated by greed or not wanting to look at minorities

what is it that makes the fascists of today different from yesterday? who are they? why do they seem to love america so much? the answer is, ANGLOFASCISM. The answer is in Britain and in Austria and in Engelbert Dolfuss. lets learn
ANGLOFASCISM
In 1933, Austrian chancellor Engelbert Dolfuss, a short, generally unpopular man, founded a political party. Out of right-wing militias, traditional conservative parties, and landed estates, he put together an organisation called the Fatherland Front, which ruled the tiny, dysfunctional Republic of Austria (rechristened the Federal State of Austria) for five years until 1938, when Dolfuss’s successor Schuschnigg was removed from office during the Nazi…

Will always love Corbyn for making me feel like politics could have some kind of hope in the UK but him and Zarah need to give this shit up and join the Greens. There is no time for fucking around and I’m sorry there‘s already a few dodgy people in Your Party anyway

The truth of the matter is that if anyone but Charlie Kirk had been killed at today’s shooting, then Charlie Kirk would be out there right now using the shooting as pretext to deliver arguments designed to make sure that the next shooting would happen, and the next one, and the next, and the next.

People that actively promote, celebrate and campaign for evil, harmful ideas and revel in death upon others have to live and die by those beliefs I’m afraid. They are living in the world they wanted, death is a currency they live off.

this has to be main takeaway from the last decade if we survive. there is no such thing as serious, ideologically coherent “conservatism” and no one should treat it as a cogent set of beliefs. it’s just a loose collection of grievances and demands. they have the temperament of single cell organisms

A key thing here is that “blame migrants” was imposed on the public from above by successive governments and the national press working very hard, hand in hand over decades, while “blame the rich” seems to be largely organic, arising despite committed efforts to stamp it out.

I live in one of the most multicultural areas of the UK and there is rarely a day where I'm not positively impacted by that - whether it's delicious food, really good local businesses or my incredibly kind neighbours. I'm not saying this as a political statement, more just a reality of my life.
