A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

Of course wearing a poppy is a political statement. Just because something is common or mundane doesn't mean it's not political. It's also why I don't wear one anymore, and won't until Remembrance day is about why I was asked to go make sacrifices, instead of just blindly thanking me for doing so.

Of course wearing a poppy is a political statement. Just because something is common or mundane doesn't mean it's not political. It's also why I don't wear one anymore, and won't until Remembrance day is about why I was asked to go make sacrifices, instead of just blindly thanking me for doing so.

Not just classes are cancelled. DFA members have been locked out by the admin since August 20th: we can't sign students in from waitlists, can't advise them, can't share syllabi, can't help them with scholarship applications, etc. etc.

Not just classes are cancelled. DFA members have been locked out by the admin since August 20th: we can't sign students in from waitlists, can't advise them, can't share syllabi, can't help them with scholarship applications, etc. etc.

I know profs don't like teaching intro courses but, as someone who's been directing academic programs for 10 years, I can say that if your introductory on-ramps aren't taught by passionate (semi-)experts, the rest of your mid- and upper-level program is f***-ed. The trenches are there for a reason.

DFA & @dalhousieu.bsky.social ended conciliation Aug 11 with no agreement. In fact, Dal Board left at noon, didn't tell us or the conciliator (their empty room below!) Guess it's up to the DFA to #KeepDalStrong. Board's final offer going to DFA members this week. @ansut.bsky.social @caut.bsky.social
