Over the course of six years, I’ve changed from a person with a general ambivalence about vaccines to GIMME ALL OF YOUR VACCINES, IDC IF THEYRE FOR CAT GENITAL WARTS JUST GIMME
The Shingles vaccine and reduction of dementia: a new natural experiment from Canada replicated 3 others and adds to this week's link to slowing of biological aging.

I’d like to send out a few DMs, but the state of Ohio will not let me unless I upload a picture of my drivers license (and all the personal info on it) to Bluesky, on a “secure” online server. I’m sure nothing can go wrong with that 😐

There is a kind of relief in giving up hope that someone will save us. It means we just work on improving the things we can control, down here on our level.

What's going on in YA right now? The category of fiction features increasingly older characters and storylines that drive a wedge between teen readers of the books and adult readers of the books: bookriot.com/whats-happen...
YA Has Entered Its Awkward Adolescence and It's Teens Who Are Losing Out
What is going on with young adult literature right now? Characters are older, stories are steamier, and there are fewer books reaching actual teens.

I said it before, will say it again -- generative AI fetishizes "ideas" while sneering at effort, execution, and education. That, despite Gen-AI being built on and out of other people's effort, execution and education.
A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas
In writing and in dispensing my (very dubious, probably shady) writing advice, I am often keen to note that ideas are bullshit. Most writers treat them like precious gems when really, ideas are lik…

Every time i see something about Avatar i get a little sad bc we coulda had a Battle Angel Alita franchise instead.

James Cameron chose to dedicate the rest of his professional career to smurfs in space instead of the most metal cyberpunk manga series ever 😔

My daughter just turned 15, the same age as the MC in my debut YA SF that came out 15 years ago. (Yes, I had a debut novel and firstborn in the same month.)

I’m re-releasing a new edition of that novel now. 15 years later. The ebook’s out November 15. (Print coming soon.)

I’m independently re-releasing an updated version of my YA SF debut The Unidentified, so I’m going to be real annoying about it for a while so people know the new ebook and print edition is coming out. Tell your friends so I don’t have to!

Kat’s critique helped me reimagine my WIP, to see it from an entirely new angle.

A very insightful as well as incisive editor!! A+, Highly recommend.
I have openings in my editing calendar. I do developmental edits of novellas and novels, and work with multiple genres. More information here: www.kathowardbooks.com/editing and I'm always happy to answer questions.

A reminder to always challenge your denials
Insurance strangleholds increased exponentially (maybe 12-18 mos ago) and my theory is that they all switched to AI to do their denials. They make denials that are wrong, even based on plan stipulations. Accordingly, it has also exponentially increased my burnout as a nurse practitioner.
You can honestly tell when AI has been installed in something, because that thing gets worse. Basic shit like autocorrect, or closed captioning, is getting wonkier and wonkier because they let the environment-destroying chaos liar have a crack at it. But sure, let's let it control nuclear missiles.

Progress doesn’t always look like pages written.
Sometimes it’s cuts, questions, or quiet thinking.

The process is working, even if it feels invisible.
