Still pseudonymous for work reasons.
Regulation, justice, climate - are among things I work on.
Science fiction, Baroque music, Frank Zappa are things I don't work on and enjoy very much.

do not make the mistake of thinking this means the US bishops conference, as a whole, are in any way "woke," or even centrist

they skew WAY WAY WAY further right than your average Normie American Catholic, it's just that immigration is one of the areas where they radically diverge from the GOP

these epstein emails are pretty damning. i sure hope that we haven't spent the last couple years in a cultural backslide where men are seemingly allowed to openly and gleefully fantasize about dominating young women without any threat of reproach

I mean for any normal person that would be career ending stuff.

But America has allowed this appalling human being to defy all the normal rules

This is 1 about record enrollment partially because of these subsidies. www.cnn.com/2024/01/24/p... (original post had wrong date)

note that the US Catholic bishops just elected an absolute firebreather of a conservative to be their new head, so it's important to understand that immigration is very specifically NOT an area where the MAGA adult convert caucus (Vance, Kirk, etc.) and old-school Catholic conservatives align AT ALL
Here’s a gift link (no paywall) to the article, “Catholic bishops condemn ‘indiscriminate mass deportation’ in rare statement”:

I think that is quite spot on (at least for 1990 onwards), for "before 1990" I am not sure the parties were already there, but clearly the girls provision was probably there...
The kind of sexual exploitation he offered was part of his projection of power. His financial clients knew he was successful by how many beautiful 'young women' he 'surrounded himself with' his 'parties' were part of he convinced them to trust him with their money >

Went and read up on Epstein's life and career. Barely attempted studies, no real financial skills in evidence, nonetheless constantly gets involved in major opportunities to earn dollops of money under the guise of "financial management" for rich people. Something does not add up, could you ask?

Things to know about Epstein hugger Ken Starr: prosecuted Bill Clinton for lying about consensual (if inappropriate) sex, got fired from Baylor University for doing nothing about an on-campus rape epidemic.

Update from the most corrupt regime in the EU, and the most reliable Russian agents (Fidesz):
Hungarian FM Péter Szijjártó is urging the EU to halt funding to Ukraine, citing ongoing corruption. He claimed Brussels keeps sending money without accountability, referencing recent scandals. He vowed that as long as Fidesz is in power, no Hungarian funds will go to Ukraine.

In summary, if one doesn’t like populism, one might want a centre right-ish party that’s robustly in favor of institutions - ie a Conservative Party.

Curiously, it occurs to me that the most small c leading conservative politician in the UK is Ed Davie.

the amount of transphobic bullshit trans people have to deal with is easily 10x higher than most cis people think, so i try to keep the same mindset when it comes to how much bigotry other minorities experience. probably waaaay higher than i think.

Trump & Epstein were named as co-defendants in a lawsuit accusing them of raping 13 year old Katie Johnson. She ended up dropping the lawsuit after receiving death threats for her & her family.
This is not new evidence.
This cannot be covered up.

2. Given that locking more people up is NOT a response to rising crime, we could ask ourselves why it has been happening.
I see it as one symptom of the rising power of the economic elite, and of its influence over successive governments. 2/8

1. Placing these two graphs side by side shows why we have a prisons crisis. They can also be seen as a kind of Authoritarianism Index, showing the trend in state attitudes.
On the left is the Crime Survey for England and Wales.
On the right is the UK prison population.

there's a sense that conservatives want me to worry about which liberal elites might catch Epstein strays when in fact I am so married to this outcome that me and this outcome have a home in the suburbs and are expecting twins
All the Epstein emails are powerful elites saying shit like “Hello my friend the pedophile, i need your advice as a pedophile, what do you think about this other pedophile? Pedophilic Regards, your Friend ;)” and instead of swinging from a gibbet most of them are still writing op-eds against leftism
