A new paper out this weekend in which we analysed PeptideAtlas peptides in search of coding genes novel to the Ensembl/GENCODE reference set,

The peptides suggested another 35 potential new coding genes, but the devil is in the detail. Thread shortly:

Background The human genome has been the subject of scrutiny for more than two decades, yet new protein coding genes are still being uncovered and recently ribosome profiling experiments have provided...

No surprise the Trump NIH director doesn’t understand how science works—doesn’t get NIH has been *the* world-historic leader in innovation.

After all, he’s never actually done any science.
Even before his rightwing pundit career 2020-25, he spent his time with economists, not scientists.
The NIH director told attendees the NIH doesn't do enough innovative research.

“What puts lives at risk is doing research that’s incremental,” Bhattacharya said. “All it does is advance the careers of the researchers that do it. It results in publications that don’t get used and aren’t replicable.”

Jeff Bezos is in the files then. Only logical conclusion.
The Washington Post editorial board decided the Epstein files have “no public interest” before even seeing them. That’s a stunning position for any newsroom to take. Praising Clay Higgins as the lone ‘no’ vote, too? No wonder no one trusts legacy media. Absolutely disgusting.

I’ve gotten all my NIH grants from NIGMS. They’ve never had a payline. Not sure if that’s good or bad but occasionally it gave me a bit of hope. But also their IC50 was usually around 20th percentile so at least there was hope.

Sometimes I go over to my X account to see just how bad things are over there. Besides getting called foul names when I defend trans people's existence, occasionally something really funny comes across. This is a grift beyond grifts. He learned redox in high school & it's been all redox ever since.

The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. "HANG THEM", he posted.

If you're a person of influence in this country and you haven't picked a side, maybe now would be the time to pick a fucking side.

Imagine the things we could do with our time if we didn’t have to do this bsky.app/profile/chan...
I did my job. And then I did a job that never should have been my responsibility afterwards, sending emails and having meetings about how this was allowed to happen in the first place. Other women scholars had to spend their time explaining to Aspen leadership why this was not ok.

CNN reports that only 2% of the 600+ people arrested without probable cause or warrants in the Chicagoland area in violation of a standing court order had any criminal records at all.

The idea that these are the worst people on the planet only makes sense if you see them as Nazis saw Jews in 1940.

One of my earliest moments of radicalization was in 2005 when Larry Summers said that women biologically have less aptitude for science than men. Following that, scores of equally unimpressive people wrote pieces trying to explain or justify his remarks, when they should have called for his removal.
