Anna Howard Shaw was born #OTD in 1847.

Pioneering American suffragist, physician, ordained minister & one of the most influential leaders in the #womenssuffrage movement.

Earned her MD (1886, only woman in her class) & one of the first women ordained as a Methodist minister in the US (1880).
A historic black-and-white photograph of suffragist and physician Anna Howard Shaw in her later years, taken during a celebratory moment outside. She is wearing full academic regalia, including a dark doctoral gown with velvet panels and three velvet bars on the sleeves, and a mortarboard cap with tassel.
