I've never felt one like that. Gentle rolling and then BAM! A big old jolt. Went on a while, too.

A little over 100 years ago Warren Harding died...a couple of weeks after visiting Alaska.

If we get this lucky again, you Lower 48 bitches can never charge us extra shipping again.

My favorite is when people mispronounce my last name and then argue with me that I'm pronouncing it incorrectly.
In related news, the soft c sound exists. Not all c sounds are hard.
Something very very weird happened during the Hugos award ceremony... It's been on my mind for days, and so I wrote this blog: "When People Giggle at Your Name, or the 2025 Hugo Awards Incident"

Looks like write-in season for city council this year.
The three candidates for two seats on the council are Victoria Askin, who's been on the council since 2020 and has an oilfield background, Bridget Grieme, who works in juvenile justice, and Glenese Pettey, a financial advisor who has been on the council in the past.

Why wasn't there a stronger Russian presence in the Upper Cook Inlet? Because the Dena'ina killed them. In 1797, Dena'ina warriors defeated Russians at Tyonek, Iliamna, & Fort St. Nicholas (Kenai). Russians then avoided Dena'ina territory except for Kenai church & trading post.

The only thing that sucked about DC was how hot it was. Ignore the fact we last visited in July. 🫠

Suddenly Alaska is the neutral ground for this big meeting between Putin and Trump. Please remember the history of Alaska as a borderland in the North Pacific- centered in WWII Pacific history and the long Cold War consuming most of the 20th century. Remember Indigenous perspectives for all wars

A few weeks ago I fell into a rabbit hole on the National Archive website and unearthed this missing pilot report my grandfather made re: his Major who went down during a Normandy mission. He was literally my oldest son's age, flying a P47 and straffing Nazis. Now look where we are today. 😐

My husband has worked the past three days moving his classroom for next year. This 46 yr old seaweed album he unearthed is now living rent-free in my head. It's so dam cool. TDIL that seaweed pressing was all the rage ~100 years before this album was made.

I was born in ANC and my parents lived on W. 15th Ave where I spent my first six years of life ice skating in the dark, canoeing to the island, feeding the ducks, and watching hot air balloons inflate on the shores of the "bagoon" (I couldn't pronounce "lagoon," lol.

I'm not officially entering (Dora Carrington would be my answer if I did, lol) because I read an e-ARC. It was excellent. A tight and engaging mystery with a bit of the vibe "Last Night At The Telegraph Club" had.

The small town gossip factory is working OT on this story. It was nice to read this article and clear up some of the rumors.
The indictment alleges Francisco Rodriguez-Rincon “was found” in the U.S. earlier this year after having been removed, excluded or deported in December 1995 near Calexico, California. www.kdll.org/local-news/2... #kpborough #aknews

I could be reading a nice little book on my lunch hour, but no. I have to write my state reps and ask them to vote to override this tyrannical asshole's veto yet again. 😡
Gov. Mike Dunleavy has vetoed House Bill 57, the bipartisan education funding bill that passed the Legislature with a combined 48-11 vote this session.

It's his third veto of a public school funding bill.

He writes there's "no evidence" funding schools matters.

This reminds me of when Dunleavy became governor. First, he wanted to be called Mike on the state letterhead, then he switched to Michael only to go back to Mike all in a matter of months. So much wasted paper and time.

Fuck, and I can't stress this enough, this guy.
Dunleavy has yet to make the threat publicly. But superintendents who attended the meeting confirmed the governor made his intentions clear in a teleconference with school district leaders from across the state Thursday morning.

Meeting with superintendents, Dunleavy threatens to veto compromise education bill
Gov. Mike Dunleavy is demanding the Legislature pass additional education policy changes, or he'll veto a compromise bill that passed with wide support, superintendents said.
