I'm excited to present to you all the launch of Neighbors: A Story about Food and Love.

It's a food blog that is also my first novel!

You can read the first chapter and recipe below, about how this project came to be, and the wonderful collaborators who helped me bring it to life.

Hearing from more people after this went out.

"We're all pissed. This was a lot of unnecessary stress on people and their families for nothing. And if I win the lottery tonight I absolutely will spend millions to hire people to follow these 8 Dems around for a year and make their lives miserable."
I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

"I would rather be an actual pawn. At least pawn sacrifices are calculated and achieve something. All this for a fucking meaningless vote."

First thought on waking up:

Fuck the Democrats

Second thought:

Thank you, brain, for finally giving me a cute romantic dream

Third thought:

Seriously, fuck the centrist Democrats!!!!

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

If a budget deal goes through without restoring Medicaid & ACA subsidies, they will never be restored.

That's a death sentence for millions of Americans but also to the entire republic and economy: Health care is a for-profit business generating TREMENDOUS economic activity & will grind to a halt.

I'm legitimately confused about the play here. No person who now is going to go without coverage in the ACA is going to just blame the GOP. They will rightly blame the Democrats too. Dems won't get "points" for "fighting" if they cave. It makes little sense.

You can't leave voicemails for Durbin outside of open hours so I sent a message through his portal and will call first thing in the morning.

I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.

It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Wild how doing 50 jumping jacks every morning actually makes my body feel a lot better.

Going to work my way up to 100 jumping jacks over the coming weeks, but anyway, shout out lymphatic drainage for making my hips hurt less.

Chicago Public Library's budget cuts would mean losing HALF of the materials budget. It would mean losing 90 staff members.

Cop budget's fine, though.

My latest is a love letter to Chicago. "I see you stumbling through the stubborn, awkward rhythm of showing up, again and again. I see you fighting alongside people who sometimes frustrate and confuse you, and defending neighbors you may have never met, because you know they’re all your people."
