This is, I believe, the most Jewish question.
Hey #Jews! Is it possible to be *religious* and not believe in G-d? If so, how does it work? Tell me please!

Today is the anniversary of the British evacuating New York City after the end of the Revolutionary War. Here's how I learned about it: the piece that introduced me to the terrific work of @bencarp.bsky.social
Evacuation Day: Marking the End of the Revolutionary War
We know how to honor the image of soldiers charging forward, but we often forget to cheer the backs of troops as they peaceably depart.

Thank you, Heather, for the firehose of mentions! I also like to inaugurate the holiday season with this piece from @ageofrevolutions.bsky.social about how the same people who invented Santa Claus distorted the Revolutionary history of NYC: ageofrevolutions.com/2022/12/05/m...

I have a food pantry in my front yard. It is used heavily. We can't keep it full & could use some help covering the cost of shelf-stable supplies. No one is using this pantry unless they need the help. We supply beans, oatmeal, onions, etc. It's not gourmet food.

Sure. I've been calling out Steve Sonstein for 40 years. He keeps doing it and the police believe us but the DA won't file charges. Maybe someone else wants to take a crack, I'm fucking exhausted.
Carrie Fisher was the blueprint.

Ahhh the memories of the Liehmann's women's dressing room . . . Zero modesty there.
pursuant to the thread about modesty I think there are... escape valves that we very much do not have in America w/r/t what in Japanese would be referred "skinship" - the kind of friendship where it'd be reasonable to expect to see someone naked

We've never really thought that; the trope of a stranger jumping out of bushes is a nice story men tell to each other so they aren't responsible for their actions. Or those of their friends and family. Look at the etymology of the word and you'll see it's always been a crime against property.
Like, it’s really starting to dawn on us as a society that rape isn’t just a guy jumping out of the bushes and dragging a woman away by the hair (women have been saying this forever, of course, and that was Feminist Discourse) but MeToo made it mainstream discourse.
