Crime writer. Querying. Member of SinC.
I hope we all take these moments to reflect on how writers and artists are pulling stark truths to the forefront with poignancy and power.

We need the arts to survive as a society and culture.

"What if I wrote a cozy mystery?"

I've written everything but, including the not very cozy murder mystery/crime piece I'm querying on.

And the environmental mystery in progress...

And then the other murder mystery, and the story about all the stalking...

I'm still trying to get cozy over here!

The good doctor generally doesn't know what time it is, and the detective generally doesn't care.

But his alter ego? That guy definitely prefers the night. For reasons. Good reasons. Look, he'd really prefer we talk about something else, okay?

Vox has partnered with OpenAI, so this "article" is one giant ad.

I've never met a creative with enough time and funding to explore all their ideas.

We get stuck mid idea, but the funny part is we need fresh input/experiences to get unstuck, which is the exact opposite of GenAI.

America, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the world’s idea machine?
We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
What if the best use of AI is restarting the world’s idea machine?

We are parents of a trans kid and our family takes this very, very personally. If you intentionally make life harder for our beloved daughter, it’s EXTREMELY hard to think of you as an ally, to say the least. @amyklobuchar.com - you still send us requests for money, while hurting our kid. Disgusted.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

"Papers please" is... grim. I don't know that there's an adequate way to describe living in a fascist state--not in a way that conveys its full horror.

I can't imagine the stress and grief for her as a mother, and for her son trying to get home safe to his family. I'm so sorry this happened to them

In light of this, I'll be pulling all of my ebooks from Amazon at the end of the month and Woman of Sorrow and Blood will NOT be published in ebook on Amazon

I will still be distributing print books through Amazon because it's much easier/more cost effective than the alternatives

Let's give it up for a fellow author! Congrats to you!! 🥳🎉🙌
It's here!

The ✨news✨ is here!

I am delighted to announce that The Tinsel Twist is coming from Turner Publishing in less than a year.

I am so stoked to work with Turner.

Thank you @litagentkatiem.bsky.social for not giving up on me!

The other part (that I forgot to add) is that because of how my brain is currently working, I can either do soc med or write creatively, but I can't do both in one day. I'm the same way with writing any non-fiction (like this other book I'm toying with).
I know it's asking a lot, but a positive action readers can take is to interact with our stuff. Any of it. Right now (at this point in my career), it feels like single writers are called to be full media companies, and it's not our natural lane

I'm a one-on-one type. Daily life involves caretaking.
not sure how to square ‘no one person can be reasonably expected to pay for every media subscription’ with ‘sorely underpaid writers need to make a living’ but my inclination is not to locate that problem with any of the broke ass people on either end of the complaint

It's a weird time for the Midwest. It feels like a perpetual midnight, like you're in the world's dullest sleepover.

Things felt more concrete this month. And I'm looking forward to what the Jan new year brings.

(I'll think about the Feb one later)

The northeastern edge of the city features a terrifying suspension bridge that's always foggy in the mornings... especially in the summer.

I'm so easily influenced (and still waking up) that I initially thought this was one of those new writer focus tools (like the Freewrite) and was preparing to click through to see why they think this one needs to be $500 //facepalm.

(But seriously, why are all our focus gadgets so expensive ;_;)
A palmtop obscurity: the Handy 98 (1990).

Despite the 98 branding and coming from NEC, this was not in fact PC-98 compatible but runs DOS 3.1, something I've read left many buyers in Japan feeling scammed.

I've watched a video on it and the keyboard looks awful, tiny little rubber things.

Me, as a writer: I've used "actually" three times in this chapter! That's horrible. I'll need to fix that.

Me, as an actual person, speaking: "So, actually, that isn't an actual problem...actually." 🙄

This also describes my writing style: start somewhere and hope I figure out what I'm writing about as I go. A pantser to the core, baby!

The outline comes way later, and that's more of a check than a guide. <3

This would be interesting to explore with Hal, b/c he really hasn't had a chance to feel his feelings in a while. He was in economic survival mode for a while, but now (esp after book 1) he's forced to slow down--physically and professionally.

If so, how do they cope (or fail to cope) with it?

I mostly focused on my webinar today, but I did get some brainstorming done in the AM. I was toying around with some ideas for a non-fiction book, so I brain-dumped into Obsidian.

What a great webinar that was! One of the things that was really cool was how active the chat was--like what a welcoming group of people <3

Honestly, SinC is such a great organization. I'll be sure to renew my membership soon, because I do love it (and the cost is very fair)
