If they kill this guy horribly after the first 30 minutes and the rest of the game is moody, isolated exploration the game will instantly be a 10/10

Balancing out complaining about D&D I wonder if there's any RPG that really hones in on the thematics of Armored Core i.e. becoming a dehumanized, weaponized entity on behalf of a group of capitalists functionally playing god. But also cool robots.

When there's multiple instances of bespoke systems being scrapped for 5e and smaller publishers feeling their arms twisted to make full 5e conversions of their games to make money back on it it feels like it's hard to argue against the fact that D&D has done its best to narrow the RPG design space.
Listening to people say D&D has no negative bearing on the indie creative space at large has me tweaking.
This is a creative monopoly unlike anything seen before or ever. I have a list of marketing outreach channels where 95 out of a 100 contacts exclusively cover D&D/OSR (D&D adjacent)...

AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

I know this marks me as a #fakedemon but I can't bring myself to hate the d20 despite flaws with d20 dice systems. It just feels too good to roll.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the goblin/gnoll genocide in Baldur's Gate 3 to be orthogonal to the broader cultural and political image the game presents for itself. In a game of gay tieflings and tumblr-friendly OCs the remnants of Gary "Nits Make Lice" Gygax's ideology flare up strong.

Dragonbane, Mothership, and other more lightweight games putting out "starter sets" that are really just the full core rules plus some adventures and accessories really lays bare how much I wish more RPGs did their bundles like that.

I want to get gore art but I need to explain to people that it's not a sex thing I just watched a lot of extremely violent anime as a teenager and it imprinted on me in a visceral way. Not that there's anything wrong if it's a sex thing for you. I just think big blood sprays are cool.
