This seems really ill-considered. "Everyone is welcome to join our coalition against fascism, except for influential people with large platforms: they can F off"? I'm sure that's cathartic, but I don't think it's strategic.
I'm talking about ordinary people who were on the sidelines but have recently become radicalized by events in Minneapolis and elsewhere, not the right-wing pundits who very much helped bring about this current clusterfuck and are now looking for an offramp.

They can apologize and shut the hell up.

Somehow not a metaphor:
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

This is so good!
I felt like making some art last night/today and could have made something beautiful and/or meaningful but I made this instead.

It's a Barbie Yaga Malibu Dream Hut.

No regrets. Can't defeat fascism without joy.

From 2016, but sadly still relevant: www.justsecurity.org/34404/case-s...

"You lose your sense of outrage, which is, after all, a feeling we experience when we see something abnormal. Once the abnormal becomes routine, outrage fades."
The Case Against Serving
Two of my friends, both of them principled and talented conservatives, told me they were approached by members of the Trump team about possible posts in the incoming administration. Both of them find ...

Thank you for respecting my privacy at this difficult time.

There's an interesting #linguistics angle here: "Legal experts say " makes the statement sound more debatable, even though logically we should trust legal experts more than the journalist. Pragmatics is weird!
NEW: President Donald Trump says he is granting a pardon to Tina Peters, who was convicted on state charges related to tampering with Colorado's election systems. Legal experts say presidential pardons do not apply to state charges.

This "movie you've watched more than six times" thing is astounding to me. I don't think I've ever in my adult life watched a movie more than once. Where is everyone finding the time??

This poll is woefully incomplete: they didn't let Labour supporters vote against Labour! Do the pollsters not read the news?

Cygwin! 💚

It made it so easy, since it let me keep my fully functioning Windows system. It added without taking away.

Nowadays I'm a full-time Ubuntu user, but Cygwin was my gateway to Linux.

You never forget your first love.
28 years ago, I learned about this amazing thing called Linux.

I immediately drove down to Best Buy and bought a boxed set of Red Hat 5.0. Probably the best $50 I've ever spent!

What was your first Linux distro?

Two interesting things here:

1. In support of "everyone is 12" theory, she seems to believe that if her phrasing is clever enough, she can make grown adults believe that we've made zero progress since literal slavery times.

I've never seen so many bad pie takes on one day. I guess it's good that we're getting it out in the open, but honestly I don't see how we as a society move forward from this.

Why is everyone overlooking the obvious interpretation, that by "gay" he means "happy"?

Also because that was a creepy name to begin with.

Ugh, John Bolton messed up the wording on his Ezra Klein parody headline. How embarrassing!

My neighbors have a welcome mat that says "All Are Welcome Here", and I just don't understand how they can be so cavalier about inviting in vampires.

Clearly I'm not jaded enough, because even after everything else, I find this detail to be absolutely chilling.
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Republicans: Calling us "fascists" is an incitement to violence.

Also Republicans: Trump is a monarch.
It is a scandal totally unprecedented in history that the Vice President has shared a video depicting the President as king. It’s an obscene violation of every founding American principle.

And nothing will come of it. It makes me physically sick.

This thread gets pretty wild. I think this person forgot there's a mute button?
lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

I can't get over his notion that redistricting would "tear communities apart". Does he think they'll be building highways along the new district boundaries?
I believe that Trump, Mike Johnson and Greg Abbott should not have started this and continued with it in multiple states to rig the midterms. No Democrats want this, but we can’t unilaterally disarm in the face of multiple threats to fair representation nationwide.
