Is craftivism performative? Yes. That's the point. Resistance includes a public demonstration of opposition at accessible events with a low barrier to entry.

The red resistance hat pattern has raised $300k for the people of Minnesota. That's not effective?
Angela, the pussy hats weren't very effective. Knitting is cool, especially if you put resistance messages in it, but it's not resistance. It's performative. It's only actually effective if you're a spy and putting messages in or something. Otherwise it's a hobby, and the pussy hats were just silly.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

A federal judge in Oregon issued a sweeping rebuke of the Justice Department’s nationwide push to seize state voter rolls, ruling that the department can no longer be presumed to be acting in good faith and warning that its conduct threatens voters and states’ rights.

The judge pointed to a letter from Bondi to Minnesota that tied federal immigration enforcement to demands for voter data as the smoking gun.

Excellent reminder. When we look at both World War I + World War II, we had knitting machines that could have made socks, especially. But so many grandmas knitted for their grandsons when they didn't have other ways that they could contribute. We need everyone invested in resistance.
I'd also mention the fact that it's incredibly abelist to define others activism as not-worthy based on... Any metric honestly? People have different strengths and abilities and they all lend themselves to effective activism and denying some1 else's work because it doesn't look how you want it to 🫡

EVERY MONTH while making less than $17 an hour??? WE MUST RAISE THE WAGE!

People love to shit on the pink pussy hats, while failing to recognize that for hundreds of thousands, it was their VERY FIRST engagement with any kind of social protest. Meet folks where they're at. Help them level up to bigger actions. Applaud early efforts and guide people to the next step.
I remember seeing photos of the women’s march with the majority of marchers (proudly) wearing their pink pussy hats. The effect of the sea of pink was striking. To me, that’s effective.

Don't forget: YouGov poll 24 Jan 26: 76% of Democratic votersx 47% of independents and even 18% of Republicans voters support ABOLISHING ICE
Once again, Surrender Dems have massive support from their base (and a majority of Americans!) to take big courageous steps in the right direction, and once again they fumble epically.
They want us to accept so little. So much less than we need
This paltry ask is unstrategic as well as unethical.
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

We don’t have the Dems we need/deserve, but we do have to rally behind them as they vote to hold up DHS funding.

We have our ideals and the party we wish we had and then there’s dealing with reality and pushing for the max we can actually get. Dems must hold the line and not cave.

Dems surrendering right now would be them caving and agreeing to a two week funding of DHS while they are a lawless gang of violent criminals terrorizing American cities.

Call and demand they hold the line

Trump didn't even need to prime the US pundit class for months with weapons of mass destruction. Everything he's doing is illegal from bombing fishermen without evidence to invading a foreign country.

Yet all the "Maduro wasn't a good guy" justifications are pouring out now

It will endanger US lives, destabilize the region, & cost us billions of dollars.
