I’ve been seeing this cover over and over and I just…

In the original you’re aware of the horror of falling, but the body positions of the workers are solid on the beam. Here, most of them should be falling off, yet they don’t, because they live in an unreal, consequence-free space.
I guess it's fitting that it's a reimagined, worse version of someone else's artwork

First scene in his first movie, he parodies the self-regard of a hack director. And then in real life, he goes on this insane run: 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘐𝘴 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘯̈𝘢𝘭 𝘛𝘢𝘱. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘔𝘦. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦. 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘔𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺… 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘺. 𝘈 𝘍𝘦𝘸 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘯. In a row! To START his career! Not a dud in the bunch.

I was traumatized by the Candyman trailer ––by the suggestion of what might have been in the movie. I didn't watch it until more than 20 years later (it's a masterpiece, of course).
Chalk has been into horror since a young age.

“Reading Candyman terrified me, then watching it terrified me. The fact that you could call the entity by mistake from anywhere. I was 13, and then I took a big break from reading horror stuff.”

Don't mistake incompetence for accident. The degradation of your social media feed, the collapse of your news, the defunding of your school—it is all functional.

They are happy to rule over the ashes, as long as they are the ones holding the match.

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to switch from Calibri font back to Times New Roman. But let's be honest, this is a Comic Sans administration.

BTW, this is a great day to close your Disney+ accounts. Yep, Hulu included. ESPN too. They are ok with feeding you IP AI slop (which is different and much worse than their usual IP slop), so best let them know quickly how you really feel about that.
This morning, Disney announced a deal with OpenAI. Read more about the WGAW’s advocacy against the theft and exploitation of writers’ works by AI models: www.wga.org/contracts/kn...

I think if they really dump AI content onto Disney+ they'll find out real quick that NOBODY wants to see that shit. But it's so symbolic of the state of things that the name that once meant the very peak of hand drawn animation is now in league with the stock market scam anti-human garbage machine.

At this point it feels like only a general strike by all creatives could defend against the onslaught of corporate genAI. A last stand.

One might even consider the CD circa turn of the century, when the industry flooded the market with overpriced discs that only contained one song people liked and wanted (but not made available as a CD single).
I'm sorry to say it, but I think the answer might be the .mp3. Instantly turned art into a disposable file that was seen as worthless + thus devalued the entire artform of music - and its existence inspired everyone else to start making media for the digital landscape instead of the physical one.
What do you think the first death knell of the modern media landscape was? When we started conflating art with content or when we stopped being able to tell the difference between audience and community?
