I'm fortunate that my medium is unconducive to AI theft - I guess what I do is sculpture...? But no creatives are safe from having their work turned into slop for the masses.

the criminal justice system is full of science-y sounding woo so yes it absolutely is
Is it too much to ask to get a criminal justice degree without having to also be required to spend $800 to balance chemical equations for some reason? The election valence of Mercury is irrelevant. It’s useful to someone, but it’s not useful to me.

however a16z will only hire you for doing that and not for running over a child. well maybe, somebody should ask pmarca if running over a black child counts.
They think a Black guy with schizophrenia being moderately annoying to fellow passengers is scarier than the roid-rage white jarhead who strangles him to death
"yeah I might randomly crush a school child into pulp but did you see what's going on in the subway"

And then it's a video clip of people peacefully going about their business with zero deaths happening

As AI data centers increase energy usage, private equity firms like BlackRock & Blackstone are buying utility companies to rake in excess profits.

Public utilities are a public good, not a cash cow opportunity for shareholders. I’m fighting for accountability on this.

If NASA iterated (or blew up rockets at the same rate) you'd all be braying for it to lose funding!

I hate SpaceX fans with a passion. You can't compare a government agency that isn't allowed to experiment (or fail) with a private company. Plus comparing the entirety of the American program with the last two decades.

Instead of M4A we should have a Federal Health Insurance Corporation. Because it has Corporation in the name it would me immune from the magic public sector badness so many believe in.
Rand Paul on his healthcare plan: "What if you could join Costco? Costco has 44m members and if one person negotiated for all 44 and they bought a group plan like Toyota or General Motors does, they would be the largest collective entity in the country. They would drive prices down by sheer might."

This isn't true. Every power plant has a massive hole around the back where they dispose of all the leftover positrons.
In the bottom 0.1% of the massive mountain of errors, broken arguments and cotton-brained ignorance at play in this classic Yglesias work, but when you generate electricity, you aren't "making electrons", you are pushing them around!!!!!

The heart doesn't 'make blood' folks!!!

You aren't "moving electrons!" That's now how it works! If you're going to talk about electrons to sound smart at least get it right.

LLMs are useful but have to always take this in the context of companies like OAI saying out loud they want to be a rentier in between everything.
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

Need a law of one price but as an actual law so bad
Same product. Same store. Same time. But on Instacart, different customers may see different prices.
My story on a fascinating new experiment from @groundwork.bsky.social & @consumerreports.org and how the idea of a single price is breaking down in the digital age:

Is Warhound milfet?
“No,” says the puppygirl, “Warhound is petplay.”
“No”, says the himejoshi, "Warhound is toxic yuri.”
“No”, says the robotfucker, “Warhound is about the mecha.”
I reject those answers. I choose the impossible. Warhound is magical girl.

Fantasy novel pro tip: put as much jargon in as you possibly can, make up crazy names for everything. Lay out the rules of your magic system, make it really specific. Draw lots of maps. Don’t worry about plot or character- get too into worldbuilding! Anything you can do that isn’t actually writing!

did nobody's analysis of billionaires consider that they too can be ideological? the /best case/ is that they're focused on filling their Scrooge McDuck vault of money. more likely they're doing whatever their group chats radicalized them to. aaah.

Sen. Josh Hawley praises Missouri's new antiporn regulations.

In addition to not being true, none of his screed has much to do with protecting kids. The only way to read it is as a pretext for widespread censorship, including criminalizing adult websites and production.
