The largest investor in the Trump's BribeCoin was also pardoned by Trump. What are the odds?
New: Binance holds 87% of the Trump family's stablecoin—$4.7 billion—a higher concentration than any other major stablecoin has at any single exchange.

Its U.S. affiliate holds $1,119.

I didn’t stress it yesterday, but the megalomaniacal narcissism required for Trump to perpetuate this gargantuan, self-aggrandizing, bald-faced lie is off the scale:

“I have stopped Nuclear Wars from breaking out across the World between Pakistan and India, Iran and Israel, and Russia and Ukraine.”
More than 12 hours after New START expired, Trump posted: “… we should have our Nuclear Experts work on a new, improved, and modernized Treaty that can last long into the future.”

Oh really? You could have ordered that 5-9 years ago during your first term, not to mention last year.

YOU DON’T CARE.

Johnson, how's that map coming?
So this is a very early (1954) attempt to illustrate what the fallout implications of high-yield nuclear weapons are for war — basically just putting the Castle BRAVO fallout pattern over possible US targets...

...and I can't stop thinking about how ridiculously, hilariously phallic they all look.

New at Can We Still Govern: Here is one thing I wish more people understood about government. There is a lot of rent-seeking by private vendors in our social safety net. Trump's policies will make this worse.
@lukef.bsky.social breaks it down. 🧵

Today in 1964, “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” premiered in New York City, Toronto, and London. The original release date of December 12, 1963—and a special New York City preview on November 22, 1963—were postponed after President Kennedy’s assassination.

Same energy as "my source? I made that shit up."

This should be everyone's *base case* assumption. The president tried to refuse the peaceful transition of power once already and consistently mentions running for a 3rd term... his expectations are crystal clear.
My operating assumption is that he tried to do a hasty coup in 2020 that failed, and so everything he does in his second term should be understood as laying the groundwork for a second coup to succeed.
This needs to happen at the very least

Hey, things are awful, we're all stressed, but it's still good to read books and encourage others to read, especially nonreaders. Reading novels can build empathy, and we could use even more empathy right about now.

The murders will continue until morale improves.
Something important to understand about ICE thugs in the Twin Cities is that they're harassing innocent kids and parents at bus stops and schools every single day. Even after the Pretti shooting. It's terrorism.

"Usurpers always bring about or select troublous times to get passed, under cover of the public terror, destructive laws, which the people would never adopt in cold blood. The moment chosen is one of the surest means of distinguishing the work of the legislator from that of the tyrant.” - Rousseau
One thing that doesn't get articulated enough about reactionaries like Trump is that they are fundamentally parasitic. Yes, you can get ahead, temporarily, by acting without shame in a rule-bound system, because other people expect rule-bound behavior. You can "stun" the system into passivity.

Fucking calling it out.
AOC: "An ICE officer had violently pushed a woman to the ground and he had come over to help get her up and that is what precipitated this incident that very quickly led to an execution in the streets. What we are seeing here is a momentous pivotal moment for the United States."

As institutions begin to collapse, your community serves as a network of resilience. Our hyper-individualized society is designed to alienate you from your neighbors, to force distance between you and your closest human companions. Don't allow it to happen. Learn their names, honor their humanity.
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

And disgusted.

“Disgust” is highly useful & powerful emotion for social regulation.

Easy too b/c ICE & fascists are like objectively disgusting.

The things they do & say and stand for are anti-human, repulsive & wrong.

They are a moist turd in the punch bowl, the fingernail you find in a salad
This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny
