Really excited to announce v3.0 of our #microbiome analysis app Nephele! nephele.niaid.nih.gov

We released it in May, and this week presented it at the NIH Research Fest! We constantly update the pipelines, but this was a significant upgrade in the infrastructure and workflow. #microbiomesky
i don't have any words. but please share and amplify my friend's story.
The house on the right? Ours. Our 9 yo's close friend witnessed this kidnapping yesterday and was as distraught as you could imagine. ICE is trying to scare us; heartbreakingly, they have succeeded in scaring our kids. The rest of us are angry and determined to keep our community safe.

Huh. I saw one of these in my neighborhood. didn't know they were sponsored by the city or that they were working! 🆒
DC's public composting bins are working!

Every month, DC Smart Bins collect 55,000+ lbs of food waste. By investing in 20 new bins, we expect that number to increase by 63%.

So, if you haven't yet tried your neighborhood Smart Bin yet, consider this your sign.

It's kinda cool that Gary Larson is doing new cartoons because he picked up a digital tablet, taught himself how to use it, and it made him love drawing again.

Turns out even kings had ordinary mouths. A new study of King Richard III’s dental calculus shows his oral microbiome wasn’t so different from the common folk’s, despite a royal diet and lifestyle. #AncientDNA #Microbiome #MicroSky

In 1967 a human not only wrote this song, but played it alone at a piano and sang it like this. Was never really the same after I heard this solo demo version. The composition is like a summary of classical music from the 13th century to Gershwin, it's just crazy. Surf's Up

Hey #microbiomesky please check out our paper on a multi-omics investigation of RAG1 mutation "boy in the bubble" syndrome.

With nice analysis comparing mouse gut microbiome and intervention with human as well as IgA-seq immune signature of a leaky gut!
Using a multiomics approach, Castagnoli, Pala, Notarangelo et al. identify immunopathological, microbial, and metabolomic signatures of inflammatory bowel disease in humans and mice with partial RAG deficiency and identify a curative role for bone marrow transplantation. rupress.org/jem/article/...

Also, if anyone is #hiring for a microbiome researcher with experience in leading a scientific software team, let me know. I love doing this so much!

Our paper on #bacteriophages in the infant gut #microbiome came out earlier this year.
This work was a long time coming, and I'm super proud to be first author alongside Suchi Hourigan and Hector Romero Soto of the Clinical Microbiome Unit at NIAID.

🧑‍🎓🤖 How Students Use AI in Coursework

A study found students use AI for writing and research, balancing editing with argument development. Many remain sceptical, preferring to refine ideas rather than rely on AI entirely.

This coincides with as-close-as-we-can-get-to 25 years since the release of R 1.0.0.
