I think one of the reasons world did so well was because it wasn't open world and it was different, wilds lost a lot of what made it unique. The tone in world was just so delightful and wilds feels like a very workman like product side by side even before you add on content after launch for world.
Out of curiosity, @zugzwangmh.bsky.social and I collected some Monster Hunter sales data and charted them by how much they sold in X number of days after launch.
