If there's anything that will make Americans wake up to the AI slop threat it's going to be when it affects either food or sports, preferably both.

It's surprising to me how many writers of various kinds fail to include alt text with posted images. You would think that people who presumably have a heightened respect for language would want to ensure that everyone can access it.

My lord the replies to this. So many people so sure that they can predict the future when they haven't even bothered to learn the past. "Leninism is fascism", "workers seizing the means of production always leads to totalitarianism", "we need a perfect mix of socialism and capitalism". Sheesh.
As Matthew Sitman points out — like @zohrankmamdani (and MLK, etc) ‘1984’ author George Orwell was a Democratic Socialist who fought for workers.
He also opposed communism because the two are not the same things and words have meanings.

There is much that I disagree with in this essay, including the unpalatable assertion that "no nation should allow the percentage of foreign-born residents to exceed about 15% of its population". But foremost I reject Wood's core tenet that other countries are fundamentally different from the US.
