While trying to describe MAN FINDS TAPE to someone at a party, I spent 5 minutes talking to them about LAKE MUNGO - a movie they'd seen and loved - until I realized they thought it was an entirely real documentary.

Movies are magic.
I've read two separate threads on two different subreddits today where multiple people openly confess to not realizing Smoke and Stack are played by the same actor in SINNERS, and I'm shook.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

You guys interested in more stuff I pulled from Ron Moore’s ‘90s AOL chats with DS9 fans?

This was in reaction to a Season 5 ep retconning Dr. Bashir’s history. OH NO! The sacred CANON was violated!

Ron has the correct perspective (and more patience than I would have.)

Into the Raging Sea: Thirty-Three Mariners, One Megastorm, and the Sinking of El Faro

Couldn't put it down. Still think about it all the time.
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

In my opinion, the best Stephen King adaptations start with a slow paced first act, where everything is “normal” but something is undefinably off. Bad adaptations skip this step because they think audiences will think it’s boring, but in fact it’s the scariest part, where the tension builds
