Our work now published showing how better AI can improve both accuracy and diversity in hiring relative to supervised learning tools and status-quo human hiring.
Li, @lindseyraymond.bsky.social & @peterbergman.bsky.social show that incorporating exploration into an interview screening algorithm improves demographic diversity & hiring efficiency, while traditional supervised learning-only tools improve hiring rates at the expense of minority applicants.

I'm on the #EconJobMarket! I study how policies and childhood environments shape outcomes of low-income & vulnerable kids.

In my JMP, I study the effects of allowing youth who would have aged out of foster care at 18 to stay until 21—offering support their peers not in foster care get from parents.

Was advising some edtech companies re: their AI tutors recently, and I found that if you ask your AI tutor to create an acrostic for you, it is willing to spell out some pretty creative words and phrases…
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

I spoke with the Boston Globe about the Summers situation

TLDR: other professors like myself can no longer trust Summers to perform a key duty of a university professor, which is to advise & mentor students

Long a coveted voice, Larry Summers withdraws from a half-dozen groups amid Epstein ties. Harvard’s not among them. - The Boston Globe
Former Harvard president Larry Summers is no longer affiliated with a series of centers and think tanks with which he’s long been involved, officials confirmed Tuesday.

"orgs listed on Summers’ résumé disputed his involvement ... Brookings Institution, a left-leaning think tank, said Tuesday that Summers 'is not & has not been a member' of the org’s Board of Trustees, which Summers’ résumé listed him as serving on since '02."

As to point 3-a reminder that their cheerleading for Harvard-pays-half-a-bil has so far failed, and they have simply stopped talking about it, rather than explaining why it is they kept doing dirty work for the Trump admin.

A great story for journalists to find out the who/what/why/when on that
1) 'Why I Resigned' from UVa Prez 100% worth reading www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...

2) Events were forced by NYT story w leaked info that he was under pressure to resign. UVa prez has 'no idea' where leaks came from (See below.)

3) FWIW same NYT team did leaked "Harvard will cave" stories

Here's my thread of this year's new scholars in Economics of Education and Education Policy.

These PhD students and postdocs are on the job market, so take a look (and spread the word to others who might benefit from exposure).

And now onto the scholars... 👇

🚀 I'm on the #EconSky Job Market!

My JMP asks a classic question:
Do large, dominant firms foster or hinder innovation?

To study this, I turn to the Great Merger Wave (1895–1904), when >2,600 U.S. firms combined into corporate giants like U.S. Steel and DuPont.
