It's worth remembering that Valve's reason for taking 30% of dev's revenue is that they have tools like forums and reviews, to help build communities.
Devs literally pay for these systems, but they're not supported to moderate them in any real way. Valve just expect players to surface what matters.

the decision to make JJJ an Alex Jones type is funny at first, but time has shown that it's a creative dead end. what makes him interesting is that he's a bastard who hates Spider-Man, but he's ultimately a good and honorable person. the Alex Jones bit just reduces him to comic relief
Those aren’t arbitrary choices. You can’t make JJJ into Alex Jones without completely undermining the point of his character. He’s an old, hard-nosed journalist who keeps the pressure on Spider-Man because he instinctively knows that the guy under the mask isn’t some perfect angel
