I have said before and will say again that it is such a loss that we no longer get covers of this caliber for fantasy books.

This art is by Jean-Léon Huens. These covers are for the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. They lit my imagination on fire as a kid.

We watched THE BAD GUYS 2! It's super fun and the animation is gorgeous. We called it KidzBop Fast and Furious, and it's a great film for the whole family, and I will gladly watch a third movie.

Breaking for movie rec - "Train Dreams," a lyrical, poignant film featuring a standout performance by Australian actor Joel Edgerton. The film lingers and permeates long after the credits roll. I will be throwing darts at my tv if he's not nominated for an Oscar.

Going into December, these are my current preferences for the Oscar categories. This includes updates seeing Wicked and Train Dreams.

Notable films that I have yet to watch: Sentimental Value, Marty Supreme, Testament of Ann Lee, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Hamnet.

Joel Edgerton is so good in Train Dreams; it is my favorite performance of the year, Actor or Actress. His performance is so controlled and precise.

I desperately want to see him nominated for best actor, and I hope everyone watches Train Dreams between now and December.

Lumping them together as “AI” gives readers the impression that a single class of tool is discerning novel protein structures, teasing subtle patterns out of mountains of LHC data, writing a student’s History 101 paper, and arguing a ketamine-addled billionaire could post up Shaq in his prime. No.

We took the whole family to see WICKED: FOR GOOD! Its great! After seeing the musical this summer, I was nervous about if they could land this flying broomstick, but I think that this expanded 2nd part fills in a lot of holes. Brilliant film.

#TrainDreams is an impeccably crafted, elegiac ghost story. Not one false note. Its timbre reverberates in the soul & heart. Absolutely gorgeous cinematography. Adept use of framing & negative space to tell its story. Clint Bentley & Greg Kwedar are 3 for 3.

Poetic, moving, reflective, and universal, #TrainDreams is a quietly powerful meditation on life and the passage of time that might feel a bit too aimless for some, but the exceptional performances, deep themes, and beautiful filmmaking make it a true must-see. #Netflix #filmsky

#TrainDreams is now on #Netflix - and it’s one of this year’s best films. It’s a perfect film, housing a deeply layered, guttingly poignant score that’s rapturous on vinyl. I dropped the needle on Nic Cave’s title track & began sobbing. Composer Bryce Dessner outdid himself.

I watched TRAIN DREAMS which completely wrecked me. Joel Edgerton is beyond words. Reminds me of a Terrence Malick film. Best photography of the year.

I watched AFTER THE HUNT. Smh. It doesn't even look good. The score is atrocious. The performances are fine I guess, but the writing is just nonsensical. Really let down by this one.

I watched IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU. While I found it extremely relatable, especially right now, I also found it to be extremely anxiety inducing. Rose Byrne is great; there isn't a lot of anyone else to do. Not really a me film!

Ethan and I watched THE RUNNING MAN in IMAX! It was fun, though a little bit tonally inconsistent. Glen Powell goes really big, but the other parts are pretty underwritten. Some good action sequences. Some bad CGI. Could've been great, but undercooked.
