Initial thoughts. Allen is a better fielder, but an even worse hitter than Dubon.
Atlanta acquires INF Mauricio Dubón from the Houston Astros in exchange for shortstop Nick Allen.

Curous trade from Baltimore's standpoint, as Rodriguez should have more future value (4 years before free agency; promising prospect) than Ward (1 year to FA). But Rodriguez has been hurt a ton. Did the Angels buy a lemon?
BREAKING: The Orioles are trading RHP Grayson Rodriguez to the Angels for OF Taylor Ward

Ward hit 36 home runs for Los Angeles in 2025. Rodriguez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2024

The FO chooses Dubon over Urias as utility infielder. Which makes sense because 1) Dubon can play SS and Urias can't and that keeps Correa from having to be a long term solution at SS, and 2) he's more popular in the clubhouse.
The Astros designated Ramón Urías for assignment on Tuesday, clearing a 40-man roster spot for Miguel Ullola. The move protects Ullola from the Rule 5 Draft while alleviating some work for the Astros prior to Friday's non-tender deadline. Urías profiled as a non-tender or trade candidate

Need Dylan Cease to announce he's signing with the Astros by blasting himself into orbit.
4-star OL recruit Kevin Brown just committed to West Virginia on Pat McAfee's show by revealing a WVU shirt and then burning a couch in his yard.

Angry at this. My Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens won 12-0 today and didn't throw a completed pass in the second half. And we get out shitty win'ed by our rivals from down the street.

Anyway, go Hens. #Chirp
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps just won a game 5-0 over La Verne in D3

A four foot tall, 200 pound, serrated blade of 24 karat gold. It has injured 17 and killed 2. The rivers carved upon it must run red with the blood of the innocent.

Encouraging
Astros pitching prospect James Hicks was named Arizona Fall League Pitcher of the Year. Hicks struck out 19 across 14 scoreless innings while holding opponents to a .157 batting average

It's definitely just posturing. Which is what a GM should do.
#Astros
#MLBTradeRumors

This could just be posturing, we said the same about trading Tucker. If you are going to get a # 2 or 3 pitcher you have to give up an asset the other teams want, that could be Isaac.

Astros GM:
The Astros don't intend to trade Isaac Paredes and aren't shopping Christian Walker. Find out more at MLB Trade Rumors.

People have been jailed for puns far less egregious than these.
Boras on Bregman in Boston: “Nobody wants a Bregs-it.” He then weaved a lengthy explanation about Dunkin and Starbucks into his description of Bregman providing the right blend in “Beantown.”

Punditry from my real job (political science professor).

Huge Democratic turnout drove Mikie Sherrill's massive in the NJ governor's race.

Anger at the current Administration drove these turnout numbers, just as it has in almost every election since 2009.

Goodbye, Chas. We'll always have that catch.
The Astros have placed outfielder Chas McCormick on outright waivers, source tells @theathletic.com, along with John Rooney, Kenedy Corona, Luis Garcia and Pedro León.

Yeah I dunno I still think teams like the Cubs not acting like the big market behemoths they are is worse for MLB than the Dodgers.
